In a surprising turn of events, an NFL veteran with over 100 games of experience has reportedly backed out of a deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
31-year-old defensive tackle Dean Lowry, who reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with the Steelers, will not be signing his contract at this time and is instead focused on getting back into "playing shape," per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Rapoport also added that Lowry did not take a physical but was cleared to play following a torn ACL in 2025, which makes the situation a little more strange.
The potential loss of Lowry won't impact the Steelers too greatly, as the team acquired some solid defensive line depth this offseason, including Sebastian Joseph-Day in free agency and Gabriel Rubio in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Oddly enough, the Steelers have now dealt with two defenders this offseason who agreed to contracts but didn't sign on the dotted line, as fans also await news on the future of Darnell Savage Jr., who seemingly was set to join Pittsburgh at the start of the new league year.
