The biggest question facing every WNBA team in training camp
WNBA training camps open with key questions for each team.
Marquette's Nolan Rappis reached 100 career points but the team lost to #13 Georgetown, 17-7, dropping their Big East record to 2-1. Rory Connor scored seven goals for Georgetown, leading the Hoyas to a decisive victory.

The fun news is that Nolan Rappis hit 100 career points on Saturday at Cooper Field. It came on his fourth point of the day as well as his second goal of the day. Rappis is the ninth man in Marquette menâs lacrosse history to reach the century mark.
The bad news is that Marquette lost to #13 Georgetown, 17-7, dropping the Golden Eagles to 2-1 in Big East play and knocking them out of a three-way tie for first place in the conference.
The lousy news is that Marquette lost in exactly the way that Georgetownâs offensive profile would want them to lose. Rory Connor scored seven of the Hoyasâ 17 goals, and to make matters worse for Marquette, he had four of them in the second half after MU went into the break already down 10-4. Liam Connor, Roryâs younger brother, was the battery to his big brotherâs power, putting up eight assists on his way to nine points on the day. Liam assisted on five of Georgetownâs first seven goals of the day, and for the record: The other two go in the book as unassisted. Essentially, Marquette didnât have a defensive answer for what the Hoyas wanted to do on offense, although I guess you could make a case that it was a good thing that Rory Connor didnât score any of GUâs first five goals of the game.
I suppose we could point out that this game was 4-3 Georgetown with 6:34 left in the first quarter, but saying that was a good thing requires ignoring two other things. #1 is the fact that the Hoyas were up 4-0 in the first four minutes of the game. #2 is the face that Georgetown answered MUâs 3-0 run to get within a goal by putting up the next six goals in a row. 10-3 Georgetown with 3:52 left in the first half, which is kind of where the competitive portion of the game went out the door, and then a 5-0 run from midway through the third quarter through the first minute of the fourth left the margin at 16-5. If that didnât put Marquette in the ground, then not answering that GU 14th goal for another eight minutes really did. That means that Marquette went about 21 minutes without a goal, and you really canât do that when youâre taking a swing at the #13 team in the country.
Nolan Rappisâ four point day was enough to lead Marquette on the day. Carsen Brandt came in second with three assists, while Beau Westphal was the only other Golden Eagle to find the net more than once. Lucas Lawas played just over 46 minutes here before giving way to Jack Kask to wrap up, and Lawas made eight saves. His counterpart on the other end of the field, Anderson Moore, made 14 saves to make sure that Marquette couldnât keep pace with the Hoyas.

Up Next: Believe it or not, itâs time for the home finale. Coming up this Saturday, Marquette menâs lacrosse will have the front end of a doubleheader with the womenâs team. The men will be hosting Villanova for Senior Day, and I believe the plan is to play the game outdoors on the western field in the Valley. First draw is set for 11am Central time, with the womenâs Senior Day game scheduled for 2pm Central. Villanova was the third part of the three-way 2-0 tie atop the Big East heading into Saturday along with Marquette and Georgetown, and as I type this, the Wildcats are up 5-1 at halftime.
