2026 Kentucky Derby: Post positions and odds for Run for the Roses
With a storied history dating back to 1875, the Kentucky Derby stands as the crown jewel of American horse racing, and the excitement is mounting with just days to go before the 2026 running. This year’s Derby will gather a field of the world’s most accomplished thoroughbreds, each striving to seize the garland of roses at Churchill Downs.
The packed field for the 152nd Run for the Roses features Renegade, the current odds-on favorite, breaking from the No. 1 post position. Although the rail offers a fast start, it’s a notoriously difficult spot and no Derby champion has emerged from the inside gate since 1986.
Meanwhile, Right to Party, a long shot to win, will start from the No. 5 gate, widely regarded as offering a strategic advantage at Churchill Downs. Ten previous Derby winners have launched their victorious campaigns from this position.
This year’s Kentucky Derby isn’t without its early disappointments. Silent Tactic, who was to start from No. 13 post and initially seen as a potential dark horse contender, was the first to scratch from the race due to a foot bruise. The injury will sideline Silent Tactic and dash any hopes of a Triple Crown title.
As final preparations unfold beneath the Twin Spires of Churchill Downs, here’s a look at the current field and the latest odds for the 152nd Kentucky Derby.
