Mariners Game #20 Preview and Discussion: SEA at SDP
Mariners face Padres tonight in Game #20 after tough loss.
The Arizona Cardinals hosted quarterback Ty Simpson for a final pre-draft visit, raising speculation about their interest in drafting him. Simpson, ranked as the No. 2 quarterback prospect, could be selected in the second round or potentially through a trade-up into the first round.
Could the Arizona Cardinals draft a quarterback next week? It could happen, and the talk about the possibility will increase. According to ESPN's Field Yates, on the final day of pre-draft official visits, the Cardinals hosted Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson.
Simpson is viewed as the No. 2 quarterback prospect in the draft after Fernando Mendoza, who is expected to be drafted first overall by the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Cardinals have been connected to Simpson throughout the draft process by analysts and in many mock drafts. They need a young quarterback, as Jacoby Brissett certainly is the not the future of the team. Simpson has the potential to be great but there are questions. Some predict the Cardinals would draft him in the second round if he is available, and many predict they will trade back up into the first round to get him.
The late top-30 visit will not quell speculation.
Simpson was a one-year starter at Alabama. He completed 64.5% of his passes for 3,567 yards, 28 touchdowns and only five interceptions. He can throw with anticipation and accuracy, but he gets messy under pressure. At 6-1 and 211 pounds, he is not the ideal build for the position, especially for someone like head coach Mike LaFleur who likes a big-bodied quarterback who can take hits.
The actual draft is next week. We will know soon enough if Simpson is drafted by Arizona.
