Colton Hood was a late add for Tennessee out of the transfer portal around this time last season. He was brought in for insurance, but as it turned out, he turned out to be Tennesseeâs top option at the position. Injuries to both Jermod McCoy and Rickey Gibson forced Hood into action early, and all he did was end up becoming a potential first-round pick.
Hood introduced himself to Big Orange Country by scoring a touchdown in the first quarter of his first game as a Volunteer.
After playing in Travis Hunterâs shadow in Boulder, Hood exploded onto the scene in Knoxville just one season later. Hood found himself on the NFLâs radar after constantly making plays on the ball in the first half of the season.

Aggression, aggression, aggression â thatâs the word that best describes Colton Hood. His ability to get in the face of receivers and press is his best trait, complete with the long speed to keep up down the field. Hood ran a 4.44 at the NFL Combine last month.
Hood got his hands on 14 passes during his two season of play, which came with only 13 total starts. He picked off two passes during his time at Colorado and one at Tennessee.
Though he can control receivers physically, that aggression does cut both ways if he gets behind. Hood isnât the most twitchy athlete, showing some slow feet at times when asked turn flip and run. He tends to get a little grabby when that happens and could see some growing pains at the next level. Keep in mind, Hood has only started for one season at the college level, so thereâs plenty of development and upside left to unlock.
Hoodâs aggression spills over to the run support side, where Hood is no slouch. His 50 tackles and 4.5 for loss this past season illustrate just that. Heâs not afraid to stick his head in and make a physical play.
