Donovan Davis, a 6-foot-8 small forward in the 2027 class out of Freedom High School (Kaukauna, Wis.), committed to the Cyclones on Wednesday at Freedom High School’s Field House. He also streamed his decision, dubbed the “2026 decision” – akin to LeBron’s Decision in 2010 – by associate principal and activities director James Finster, live on Instagram. Davis holds the all-time record in scoring at Freedom, surpassing Drew Kortz from the class of 2025 .
“I’ve had a really good relationship with them and their staff,” Davis told ZAGSBLOG in December 2025. “I talk to the coaches probably about twice a week. It’s a really good atmosphere out there. It is an environment you want to play in. They want me to go in there as a 3-4. To be kind of like a wing four.”
He chose Iowa State over Iowa, Nebraska Marquette and Wisconsin. On 70% shooting his junior season, his averages included 21.7 points, 12.0 rebounds and 4.7 assists per contest.
Davis led the Irish to the D3 Sectional 2A Sectional Semifinal, where they fell to Seymour 56-49. In the game, he had a team high 17 points, 11 rebounds and six assists against the Thunder. Seymour, notably, finished the season as state runner-up.
Davis joins North Scott’s Josiah Harrington as the two members of the class of 2027. Harrington committed to Iowa State on Sept. 26, 2024.
In his junior season, Donovan Davis averaged 21.7 points, 12.0 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game on 70% shooting.
