New offensive line coach Jim Harding just landed another player in the 2027 class, as in-state four-star offensive lineman Jakari Lipsey announced his commitment to the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday.
The 6-foot-5, 290-pounder hails from Kalamazoo and has been a longtime top target for Michigan dating back to the old coaching staff. Upon the new staff being hired in Ann Arbor, Kyle Whittingham and Harding made it clear to Lipsey that he was still a priority recruit for the Wolverines.
Rivals’ Allen Trieu wrote a scouting report for Lipsey in April and had this to say about him:
Three-sport athlete who excels as a thrower in track and field and is a good high school basketball player. Can get up and dunk at his size. Has played both ways in high school and was looked at as a defensive lineman some early on. Still very raw in his technique. Needs to be more consistent play to play as well. Offer possibilities at guard and tackle, and has huge upside but needs diligence and development in order to reach that high ceiling.
Other schools in the running for Lipsey included LSU, Ohio State, Tennessee, UCLA, Wisconsin and others. He had official visits scheduled to several schools, but given this commitment, he will very likely not take those visits and only take one to Michigan this summer.
Following this commitment, Michigan is up to six commitments in the 2027 class. Along with Lipsey, the Wolverines hold commitments from four-star edge rusher Recarder Kitchen, four-star quarterback Kamden Lopati, fothreer-star offensive lineman Sidney Rouleau, three-star offensive lineman Louis Esposito and three-star safety Maxwell Miles.
Lipsey is ranked No. 3 in the state of Michigan, No. 9 at the offensive tackle position and No. 104 overall in the class, per the Rivals Industry Ranking. Check out his junior year highlights below.
