Michigan splurged during the latter half of March by picking up three commitments in the 2027 recruiting class, including Las Vegas (Nev.) Centennial three-star Maxwell Miles.
“It’s like a dream come true to play for big blue,” Miles told Maize n Brew.
Miles didn’t need to mull over whether to pledge immediately or wait out the process a little bit longer following his spring camp visit. It was on the trip that Ann Arbor was going to be his future home.
“I knew I wanted to play for Michigan Wolverines football and its rich tradition,” Miles said. “My relationship with coach Stockton, DC coach Hill, and playing for a program that expects to win.”
Michigan safeties coach Tyler Stockton, defensive coordinator Jay Hill and head coach Kyle Whittingham all played a role in securing Miles, who chose the Wolverines over other notable offers such as Minnesota, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest and San Diego State.
“Me and coach Stockton have a good relationship,” Miles said. “He keeps it real with me and pushes me to be better, and I respect that a lot. Same with coach Whittingham, it’s a strong relationship. He’s someone I can learn a lot from, and I appreciate how he approaches the game with his players.”
The March visit was also when Miles picked up the offer, as he left campus having been impressed with his position group in a practice setting.
“Michigan’s safeties are talented and definitely getting coached well,” Miles said. “I can see myself making dynamic plays in the near future.”
Currently, Miles is one of six commits for Michigan in the 2027 class. The latest addition was four-star quarterback Kamden Lopati, who announced his decision earlier this week. As the Wolverines close out spring camp and prepare for the recruiting contact period, Miles has contributed immensely to peer recruiting efforts with a clear message to any top target interested in Michigan.
“I’ve been getting closer with the other commits,” Miles said. “It’s a good group, and we’re all trying to build something special together. I just tell guys to go where it feels right for them, but Michigan is a place where you can grow, compete, and be part of something bigger.”

Miles’ official visit is slated for June 19 on Victor’s Weekend, but that won’t be the only time he returns before putting pen to paper in December.
“I plan on getting back up there a few times before signing day to stay connected and keep building those relationships,” Miles said.
