The Dallas Cowboys are considering signing veteran free agents Bobby Wagner and Von Miller to strengthen their linebacker corps. These additions could provide crucial experience and mentorship to a young defensive unit.
Through free agency, a few trades, and the 2026 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys have made some significant additions that should help upgrade their roster from a season ago, especially on the defensive side of the ball. While thatâs true, that doesnât mean there arenât more moves they could still make at certain positions.
By drafting Jaishawn Barham and trading for Dee Winters, the Cowboys have upgraded the LB position, but they shouldnât stop there. Although he turns 36 in June, Bobby Wagner is still performing like a Top 10 player at his position in the league. By signing him the Cowboys would not only solidify the LB position, but also give them a veteran who has seen it all to wear the green dot and be a mentor to Dallasâ young LBs. In what shapes up to be a very young defensive unit, Wagnerâs addition in Dallas could prove to be invaluable for this year.
Von Miller is another veteran free agent the Cowboys should consider signing to their roster. Like Wagner, he may have lost a step, but is still capable of playing at a high level and could improve Dallasâ pass rush this year. The 37-year-old generated 36 total pressures in 2025 according to PFF, and had nine QB sacks last season in Washington, which would have led the Cowboys last year. A Texas native and local Dallas resident, Miller might be open to the idea of playing in Dallas and could help the development of their young pass rusher.
Javonte Williams returns as Dallasâ RB1 and should pick up where he left off last year as one of the leagueâs top backs. Behind him things are less certain and could stand to be upgraded. Joe Mixon is an intriguing veteran option still on the open market. He missed last year with a mysterious foot injury, but is expected to be good to go for the 2026 season. Mixon would be a significant upgrade as Dallasâ RB2 and give them someone capable of stepping in to handle the workload if Williams were to miss some time for whatever reason.
Signing Bobby Wagner would solidify the linebacker position and provide valuable mentorship to younger players, enhancing the team's defensive capabilities.
Von Miller's experience and skills could significantly boost the Cowboys' pass rush and overall defensive performance, especially in high-pressure situations.
The Cowboys have made key additions through free agency, trades, and the draft, particularly focusing on strengthening their linebacker and defensive positions.
