4 things to know about new Dolphins rookie DE Trey Moore

The Miami Dolphins exited the 2026 NFL draft with 13 new players that they hope will help them in both the short and long term. Of the class, there were six defensive players taken, including Texas' Trey Moore.

Moore was one of three Longhorns that Miami selected this year, which was the first time that they've taken three players from the same school since they drafted Jehlani Jenkins, Mike Gillislee and Caleb Sturgis from Florida in 2013.

With Moore expected to hit the practice field for the start of rookie minicamp on Friday, let's go over what fans should know about him.

College Career

Moore was an unranked prospect coming out of Smithson Valley High School in Spring Branch, Texas, and committed to UTSA. In three seasons with the Roadrunners, he appeared in 29 games and recorded 105 tackles, 22 sacks, nine passes defensed, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and an interception. He also earned All-AAC honors and was named the AAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2023.

In 2024, Moore transferred to Texas, and over the last two years, he played in 28 games and recorded 70 tackles, 8.5 sacks, four passes defensed, three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles.

Combine

At the 2026 NFL combine, he ran a 4.54-second 40-yard dash with a 1.6-second 10-yard split. He also recorded a 38.5-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot broad jump.

Approach to pursuing the QB

"I think obviously for me, my main thing is my speed," Moore said during his introductory press conference. "That's always what I'm going to be using, my strength and my speed. So obviously it all stems off that, but just having the complete package of rush moves and the skill set that I have, that I've developed over these few years in college. It starts with my speed and my get off. As every elite pass rusher knows, just being able to tie those things together and have countermoves and my spin move and different things, I think that's how I approach the game is speed first and then being able to counter things off of it."
