LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil assures financial backing for the 2026 season amid funding concerns.
The Philadelphia Eagles have acquired wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks, giving up a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick. Wicks, a former fifth-round selection, has signed a one-year extension through 2027 and brings versatility and a unique background as a former high school quarterback.
The Philadelphia Eagles continued reshaping their wide receiver room by adding Dontayvion Wicks. While the move didn't dominate headlines, it’s one worth a closer look. Philadelphia parted with a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-rounder to acquire him, then doubled down by signing him to a one-year extension through 2027. That alone suggests belief.
Wicks arrives as a former fifth-round selection who has already outperformed expectations for his draft position. He's productive, he's versatile, and perhaps most importantly, he's interesting. There are layers to his story that haven't been discussed nearly enough.
Before carving out his role as a wide receiver, Wicks handled quarterback duties at the prep level. That background always adds intrigue. It speaks to his understanding of offensive concepts and coverage recognition, and it opens the door for creativity. He's not stepping in to challenge Jalen Hurts, but if the Eagles decide to get creative with gadget packages, this is a name to remember.
His breakout 2021 season at the University of Virginia remains one of the most impressive in program history. Wicks totaled 1,203 receiving yards on just 57 catches, averaging an eye-popping 21.1 yards per reception. That efficiency not only turned heads—it set a school record.
Wicks made an immediate impact during his time with Green Bay. He recorded four or more touchdown receptions in each of his first two seasons, placing him in rare company within the franchise's long history. That kind of early production isn't common, regardless of where a player was drafted.
During his rookie season in 2023, Wicks recorded 18 receptions of 16 yards or more. That marked the highest total by a Packers rookie since at least 2000, highlighting his ability to generate chunk plays and stretch the field.
The Eagles didn't just add depth. They added a player with production, versatility, and untapped upside. If everything clicks, this may end up being one of those moves that looks much bigger in hindsight.
