The San Francisco 49ers and Brandon Aiyuk are just waiting for a divorce, as it's all but guaranteed that the former star wide receiver won't be in San Francisco for the remainder of his career.
The way things unfolded was certainly disappointing, and in a way, both sides are to blame. Ultimately, however, Aiyuk hasn't held up his end of the bargain, and as a result, the 49ers aren't very happy and are trying to trade him.
Unfortunately, though, the 49ers understand that it might be difficult to find a trade partner, with general manager John Lynch being real about where the situation currently stands.
â#49ers GM John Lynch said heâs had trade discussions with teams on WR Brandon Aiyuk but acknowledged itâs not a high probability they find a taker. âWeâll see it through the draft â if something happens, great. If not, weâll re-evaluate after,'â Ari Meirov wrote. âLynch confirmed again that Aiyuk has more than likely played his final snap with the organization.â
For the 49ers, the best outcome would be a team looking to trade for him on draft night. Even if they can get a decent mid-round pick, it's likely better to cut ties with him now rather than letting this situation unfold any longer.
There are also benefits in waiting for a deal to take place, so San Francisco might ultimately be going for that.
Brandon Aiyuk is likely to be traded, but the 49ers are struggling to find a suitable trade partner.
The relationship is deemed failed due to Aiyuk not meeting expectations, leading to dissatisfaction from the 49ers.
John Lynch stated that Aiyuk has probably played his last game for the 49ers and that they will reassess after the draft.
