49ers GM John Lynch stated that while a trade for Brandon Aiyuk is possible, the likelihood is low ahead of the 2026 draft. The team has discussed trades but remains in no rush to deal the veteran receiver.
With the Trent Williams contract situation finally resolved, the San Francisco 49ers can now turn their attention wholly to the 2026 draft. There is still another question that needs to be answered, though: The fate of veteran receiver Brandon Aiyuk.
The 49ers have been adamant all offseason that they're in no rush to trade the disgruntled pass-catcher, but the draft offers an opportunity for the team to capitalize on what little value he has left to recoup some capital ahead of the 2026 season. However, that likelihood seems minimal at best with less than a week before the draft begins.
49ers general manager John Lynch told reporters in his pre-draft news conference on Monday that while there is a chance Aiyuk is traded this weekend, he doesn't think there is a "high probability" that it will happen. Lynch added that the 49ers have discussed trades with teams, though.
This isn't a big update, but it's more than the 49ers have revealed this offseason. And while it's unclear which teams the 49ers have spoken with about an Aiyuk trade, the most obvious pick is the Washington Commanders. Aiyuk played with Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels in college.
Aiyuk likely won't be a part of the 49ers future, but that doesn't mean the team can't get something for him.
John Lynch mentioned that there is a chance Aiyuk could be traded, but he believes the probability is low.
While it's unclear which teams have been involved, the Washington Commanders are considered a likely candidate due to Aiyuk's connection with quarterback Jayden Daniels.
The 49ers might look to trade Aiyuk to capitalize on his remaining value ahead of the 2026 season, especially with the draft approaching.
