The San Francisco 49ers are focusing on their strategy for the 2026 NFL draft, considering their Super Bowl aspirations and positional needs. They have six picks in the first four rounds, which will influence their selection between offense and defense.
The San Francisco 49ers have a few things to consider in the 2026 NFL draft.
Firstly, are they competing for a Super Bowl? If they believe the answer is yes (and it should be), then the draft will be focused on players who can help them win in 2026 first and foremost. That means filling roster holes and finding players who are experienced enough to contribute on Day 2.
Next, they need to ask themselves what positional needs they will likely have a year from now. That will help influence the priority of their picks — all six of which are in the first four rounds.
Finally, the 49ers need to decide what matters most to them: Offense or defense. The top of the first round could include some awesome defensive players or some middling offensive ones, depending on how the board falls. So which side of the ball they go with will determine how the rest of the draft will go.
ESPN's Jordan Reid went through all seven rounds of the 2026 draft with a week before the first pick is called and handed the 49ers some solid selections. Here's how it went:
Between offensive line, receiver and edge rusher, the 49ers could take the best available player at the position where they lack any considerable depth. Lawrence had at least five sacks in each of the past three seasons and could be a Day 1 starter in Raheem Morris' defense, which would give Nick Bosa and Mykell Williams more time to heal properly from their town ACLs.
If Dunker switches to guard, he could also be a Day 1 starter on the offensive line. Left guard is the only position that needs a new starter in 2026, and Dunker has the experience playing on the line to step in at a moment's notice.
The 49ers' draft priorities for 2026 include filling roster holes and selecting players who can contribute immediately, especially if they are competing for a Super Bowl.
The 49ers have six picks in the first four rounds of the 2026 NFL draft.
The 49ers need to decide whether to prioritize offense or defense, as the top of the first round will feature strong defensive players and less impactful offensive ones.
The 49ers' draft strategy will be influenced by their Super Bowl aspirations, positional needs, and the quality of players available at the time of their picks.

Demmings didn't play against the biggest competition in college, but was very productive: He had nine interceptions over the past four seasons with 36 passes defensed. Demmings is a tall outside cornerback who stands at 6-foot-1 and 194 pounds.
Receiver is a low-key need for San Francisco, but they wait until the fourth round in this mock. Allen projects as a slot receiver at 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds. He caught a Big 12-best 13 touchdowns in 2025 and finished with 51 receptions for 674 yards in 13 games for the Bearcats.
Clark is one of the most experienced safeties in this class. He started 46 games over the past four years and finished his college career with 15 interceptions and 21 passes defensed. If the 49ers are betting on someone who could be a quick study, Clark is a solid option.
It makes sense for the 49ers to, at some point, take a true offensive tackle as a potential successor and replacement for Trent Williams. Crownover could be that option, although he played right tackle in college.
