The San Francisco 49ers are continuing a deep dive on offensive line prospects who could be available when they're on the clock with the No. 27 pick in the first round of this year's NFL draft. Their 30 visit with Alabama offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor, first reported by NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, is the most recent sign they may be gearing up to pick an offensive lineman on Day 1 of the draft.
Proctor is an interesting prospect who could check a couple of boxes for the 49ers in both the short and long term. He is massive at 6-7, 352 pounds with 33 3/8-inch arms. The size alone makes him intriguing, but his movement skills at that size make him a potentially special player who could conceivably be the heir-apparent to left tackle Trent Williams in San Francisco. They don't have anyone on the roster who will replace Williams as Brock Purdy's long-term blindside protector, so it would make a ton of sense for them to try and find that player with Williams entering his age 38 season.
However, the 49ers have some immediate needs to fill to become Super Bowl contenders again. It stands to reason they'd want to use their most premium pick on a player who would fill one of those needs. While the club may not have an immediate need at either tackle spot, they have an opening at left guard. Proctor has the movement skills and size to spare to be their answer in the short term while playing next to Williams and gearing up to be his eventual replacement.
A 30 visit doesn't always mean a team is interested in a player, but Proctor is the type of offensive lineman the 49ers might be willing to take while passing over needs on the defensive line and wide receiver because of his ability to fill those immediate and future needs.
