In the latest must-listen episode of The Real Forno Show, Tyler Forness tells Minnesota Vikings fans to āJust Say Noā to five first-round traps at pick 18 in the 2026 NFL Draft, reveals Day 3 sleepers, and drops a full 7-round mock draft that earned a B+ grade. With only seven days until the draft, this Vikings 1st & SKOL production delivers scheme-specific truth bombs every SKOL fan needs.
Forness and producer Dave Stefano break down exactly why process beats need at 18th overall. On safety Dillon Thieneman (Oregon), Forness is blunt: āI donāt see him as this versatile chess piece⦠I donāt want him playing in a Brian Flores defense because I donāt think that role exists.ā He adds that Thienemanās best fit is a Vic Fangio-style box role, not Floresā multi-coverage demands. Guard Vega Ioane (Penn State) is a no-go because the Vikings already invested first-round capital in Donovan Jackson and big money in Will Fries: āHeās a mauling left guard⦠thereās just nowhere for him to play.ā Defensive tackle Kayden McDonald (Ohio State) fails the value test: āA nose tackle that does not have pass-rush upside⦠is not a good value selection on day one.ā Right tackle/center prospect Spencer Fano (Utah) is called poor process: āYouāre basically just recreating the Blake Brandel problem⦠I donāt want to draft a guy in the first round to then kick inside to a position heās never played.ā Corner Mansoor Delane (LSU) is the final avoid: āDrafting him to Minnesota would be asking him to do something thatās not his best⦠they simply donāt do that [man coverage].ā
The Vikings should avoid safety Dillon Thieneman, guard Vega Ioane, defensive tackle Kayden McDonald, right tackle Spencer Fano, and corner Mansoor Delane.
Dillon Thieneman is not seen as a versatile fit for Brian Flores' defense, as his skills align better with a Vic Fangio-style role.
Vega Ioane is considered a poor choice because the Vikings have already invested in other guards, making his addition redundant.
Forness suggests targeting Day 3 sleepers and trading back to secure players like linebacker CJ Allen and safety A.J. Haulcy.

Forness then flips to value, spotlighting five Day 3 sleepers and running a realistic mock that trades back twice, lands linebacker CJ Allen (Georgia) at 20, safety A.J. Haulcy (LSU) at 82, and still grabs Eric Gentry (USC) late. The simulator praised the haul: āA.J. Haulcy at pick #82 is the kind of selection that changes a franchise.ā
