On Wednesday night, the Philadelphia 76ers are set to host the Orlando Magic for the first match of the NBA Play-In tournament, with the winner of the match being seeded against the Boston Celtics for the opening round of the playoffs.
There are a few major storylines surrounding the match for the Sixers, one of which is the health of their star center, Joel Embiid, who had recently undergone surgery on his appendix after being diagnosed with appendicitis. But there isnât too much to look into there, as it was reported on Monday afternoon that, regardless of the Sixersâ success or failures in the Play-In tournament, the Cameroonian superstar wouldnât make an appearance.
This has left Nick Nurse with the likes of Andre Drummond and Adem Bona to fill out Philadelphiaâs front court for their prospective matches in the play-in tournament.
While not exactly having an update on Embiid during media availability on Tuesday afternoon, the Sixers provided an update on their rookie, Johni Broome. As reported by USA Todayâs Ky Carlin, Broome was a full participant in Tuesday morningâs practice session.
The former Auburn Tiger has been out since February after he suffered from a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee, which had been operated on in the days that followed the initial injury. In his 11 games with Philadelphia this season, Broome hadnât really produced anything of note, which wasnât the same for his 26 appearances with the Delaware Blue Coats, the Sixersâ G League affiliate.
In the 26 games that he took to the court for the Blue Coats, Broome averaged 21.8 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, getting to develop his skills under head coach JP Clark.
While itâs unlikely that Broome will suit up for Wednesday nightâs action against Orlando, given the usual timetables associated with such injuries, itâs a positive sign for the Sixers.
Tip-off between Orlando and Philadelphia on Wednesday night is slated for 7:30 p.m. EST.

Joel Embiid's recent appendectomy means he will not participate in the Play-In tournament, which could affect the 76ers' chances in the playoffs.
