The postseason is here for high school baseball. The Ohio High School Athletic Association tournament begins next week. Numerous teams in Division III and smaller will play their first postseason game May 20 or 21, with big-school teams in Divisions I and II starting the week after.
Baseball is one of the hardest sports to predict at any level. The man on the mound dictates a lot, and an elite pitcher can negate advantages the opponent has in other areas. Hitting a baseball is one of the hardest things to do in sports, and even elite players can get into slumps. And a bad defensive game at the wrong time can spell doom for any team's postseason hopes.
High school baseball rankings Greater Cincinnati high school baseball power rankings for May 13
There are many strong Southwest Ohio teams who hope to avoid all those pitfalls and have their players in top form for a long postseason run. Here is a look at the brackets and the top contenders.
Turpin players celebrate with senior Brady Gillespie (3, far left) after he drove in the walkoff run in the seventh, as Turpin defeated West Clermont 4-3 in baseball April 24, 2026, at Turpin High School.
First-round matchups: Badin vs. Mount Healthy, Talawanda vs. Northwest, Turpin vs. Batavia, McNicholas vs. Goshen, La Salle vs. Western Brown, Monroe vs. Ross
What to know: Badin, 19-3 and ranked second in the Ohio state coaches poll, is hoping to win a state championship after heartbreaking endings in Akron the last two years. The Rams don’t have a team with a winning record in their district bracket. The next highest seed is their league foe Chaminade-Julienne (11-13).
Turpin (19-6) rallied to win the Eastern Cincinnati Conference championship but could have a tough opener with Batavia (15-8), which won the Southern Buckeye-American, and boasts elite pitcher Brayden Schmittou (4-0, 0.33 ERA). McNicholas (16-8) finished second to Badin in the GCL-Coed and lost 8-0 to township rival Turpin during the season. The local winner could face No. 5 Tippecanoe in the district final. The winner of this bracket faces the winner of Badin’s district.
Badin senior Caleb Driessen reacts after ending an inning as Badin defeated McNicholas 10-0 in baseball at McNicholas, May 4, 2026, clinching a share of the GCL-Coed title, the ninth season in a row the Rams have won a league championship.
La Salle is the No. 3 seed, and has a 12-11 record including 3-6 in the rugged GCL-South. The Lancers have wins over McNicholas, Loveland and Monroe outside of the GCL. Monroe (17-4) finished second in the Southwestern Buckeye-Southwestern and beat Ross 3-1 and 5-0 to get there. The Hornets are No. 17 in the state. The local survivor likely faces No. 1 in the state Vandalia Butler in the district final.
In District 4, highly ranked Kenton Ridge (third) and SWBL-Southwestern champion Bellbrook (eighth) are likely to meet in the final, and face the winner of La Salle’s bracket in the regional semis.
Regional semifinal predictions: Badin vs. Turpin, Butler vs. Bellbrook.
Indian Hill senior Noah Coffman (7) greets Ashton Graham (6) after Graham hit a home run, as Indian Hill defeated Batavia 9-3 in OHSAA high school baseball April 17, 2026, at Batavia.
First-round matchups: Fenwick vs. Gamble/Shroder, Clinton-Massie vs. New Richmond, Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy vs. Wyoming, Roger Bacon vs. Reading, Indian Hill vs. Wilmington, Taylor vs. Bethel-Tate.
What to know: Fenwick (16-7) finished third in the GCL-Coed, and has one of the state’s best sophomores, Carter Shouse, who has an ERA under 1.00 on the mound and is hitting .321 with four home runs. Clinton-Massie (15-8) and New Richmond (15-10) split two games in SBAAC play, with CM winning 15-7 and NR winning 4-0, so the pitching matchups may decide the all-to-play-for rubber match. The local survivor likely faces No. 1 seed Urbana, who is ranked 15th in the state, in the district final.
The winner of this bracket plays a Central District champion, likely Licking Valley or Buckeye Valley. Licking Valley is No. 3 in the state and the reigning DIII state champion, and Buckeye Valley is sixth in the state.
CHCA (18-7) and Roger Bacon (17-8) are likely to meet in one district semifinal. They were the top two teams in the Miami Valley Conference-Scarlet. CHCA, the No. 1 seed in the district and ranked fourth in the state, won all three games against Bacon, but the Spartans are celebrating their best regular season in more than 50 years. Their overall school record is 20 wins in 2022. No. 3 North seed Benjamin Logan is the top seed in the lower half of the district bracket with always dangerous SWBL teams Valley View and Brookville.
Indian Hill (17-3), the Cincinnati Hills League champion and fifth in the state, is hoping to get back to the state tournament. The Braves should breeze to the district final, where the likely opponent is SWBL-Buckeye champion Oakwood (17-7), the No. 2 North seed. CHCA and Indian Hill did not meet this season.
Regional semifinal predictions: Fenwick vs. Licking Valley, CHCA vs. Indian Hill.
Nate Hyland and Madeira were second in the CHL this season.
First-round matchups: Mariemont vs. Clermont Northeastern, Blanchester vs. North College Hill, Arcanum vs. Waynesville/Preble Shawnee winner, Middletown Madison vs. Miami East, Summit Country Day vs. Norwood, Finneytown vs. Williamsburg, Madeira vs. Cincinnati Christian/Seven Hills winner.
What to know: Blanchester (18-4) has had an outstanding season, winning the SBAAC-National title and claiming the No. 3 seed in the district. Mariemont (11-8) and CNE (11-6) have had solid seasons and should have a competitive matchup. The local survivor likely plays Arcanum, which is the No. 1 seed and ranked 14th in the state.
The winner of this bracket plays a Central District champion. Johnstown Northridge (12-7) is the No. 1 seed and ranked 20th in the state.
Summit Country Day (20-6) is the No. 1 district seed. The Silver Knights average nearly 10 runs per game and have a team ERA of 2.83 with several veteran pitchers having great seasons. They should advance to the district final where the likely opponent is Anna, No. 16 in the state.
Madeira (19-5) is the No. 2 seed. The Mustangs finished second in the CHL, losing only twice to Indian Hill. They should advance to the district final where they could meet 15th-ranked Versailles or fourth-seeded Carlisle.
Regional semifinal predictions: Summit Country Day vs. Madeira, Northridge vs. Blanchester.
Grayson Houchin is one of Summit Country Day's top players.
First-round matchups: Miami Valley Christian Academy vs. Purcell Marian, Georgetown vs. East Clinton, Cincinnati Country Day vs. Felicity-Franklin, St. Bernard-Elmwood Place vs. Deer Park.
What to know: MVCA is 14-7 and shared the MVC-Gray championship with Seven Hills. The Lions are the top seed in the district and the only local team with a winning record in their bracket. Twin Valley South is the No. 4 seed and the highest seed in the lower bracket.
St. Bernard has had an outstanding season, 14-2, with both losses coming to MVC-White champion New Miami. They are the two seed but did not play CCD, which is the No. 3 seed. Fort Recovery, ranked 19th in the state, is the likely opponent in the district final. The winners of the two local brackets will play in the regional semifinals. West Jefferson (17-1), ranked second in the state, is the favorite to win the region.
Regional semifinal predictions: MVCA vs. SBEP, De Graff Riverside vs. West Jefferson.
First-round matchups: New Miami vs. Fayetteville-Perry, Spencer vs. Middletown Christian
What to know: New Miami is having its best season since 2017. They are 11-7 and won the MVC-White, their first league title since 2017, and most wins in a year since then (16-11). The Vikings should advance to the district final, where the likely opponent is Newton (15-3), the No. 6 team in the state.
Regional semifinal predictions: Newton vs. Russia, Fort Loramie vs. Delphos St. John’s.
