St. Raphael softball team secured a dramatic 4-3 victory over Smithfield, rallying in the seventh inning with key triples from Sophie Roman and Emma Martin.

One big swing had the St. Raphael softball team down, but not out, heading to the seventh inning.
Two big swings ended up giving the Saints the win.
Trailing by two runs heading to the bottom of the seventh, a triple by Sophie Roman tied the game and one-out triple by Emma Martin brough her home and allowed St. Raphael to walk off with a 4-3 win over Smithfield on Monday night.

Things started just fine for the Saints, as a Martin single to center brought in Roman with the game’s first run in the bottom of the first.
But the Sentinels changed things quickly in the top of the third. With two runners on, Sophia Parrillo hit a gapper to right that found its way to the fence and allowed Parrillo to take a trip around the bases and give the Sentinels a 3-1 lead.
St. Raphael got one back in the bottom half of the inning, but the teams traded zeroes heading to the seventh. Izzy Sousa got the rally going with a leadoff single, then scored the tying run on Roman’s triple. After a groundout that kept Roman on third, Martin hit a blast to center that allowed Roman to come home with the winning run.

Martin had a big game at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two RBI and Roman finished 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Sousa went 3-for-3 with one run and threw all seven innings, allowing two hits and one earned runs while striking out 16.
The final score was 4-3 in favor of St. Raphael.
Sophie Roman and Emma Martin were the standout players, with Roman tying the game and Martin driving in the winning run.
The game took place on Monday night.

Parrillo had the three RBI for Smithfield. Giannah Tutt was solid in the start for the Sentinels, spreading seven hits and one walk over four innings and giving up two runs in the loss.
Will Haggerty struck out 10 batters through six innings and allowed one run to lead the Quakers past the Oakers on Monday afternoon. Dustin Boudreau threw one inning of scoreless relief to end it.
The teams each scored a single run in the fourth inning to keep the contest close. But the sixth inning proved to be the difference. A two-out error allowed Moses Brown's Eli Quackenbush (2 for-4) to score the go-ahead run, and Anthony Fede followed with a single to right field, plating two more runs.
Haggerty was 2-for-4 at the plate in the Moses Brown win.
For Coventry, Griffin Frenze and Aiden Riley each recorded a hit, and Andrew Rapose took the loss after striking out five and allowing one earned run over six innings.
The Thunderbolts found themselves trailing by four runs after the first inning thanks to some timely hitting by the Lions.
But Cranston East starter Ed McClung weathered the early storm, then settled into a 6.1-inning performance with four strikeouts and no more runs allowed. Marcelo Acosta came on in the seventh and closed the door on the win.
Lincoln's batters came out swinging with Lucas Marshall, Brenan Robert and Caden Oldham all driving in first-inning runs. Robert paced the offense, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
But the 'Bolts chipped away an halved the lead in the fourth when Josh Gillen singled home a run and Yadiel Ventura drew a bases-loaded walk. Then in the sixth, Anthony Pimental's bunt plates a run and, two batters later, McClung singles home two more to take the lead.
Tyler Chisholm led Cranston East , going 3-for-4 with a run scored, and Gillen was also 2-for-3, with an RBI, run scored and a walk.
The Hawks were flying high after seven first-inning runs and cruised to a 12-7 win over the Huskies.
Hendricken got off the bus to Bristol and started hitting, with Parker Boyd leading the game off with a double. The Hawks kept it going and sent 11 batters to the plate, scoring seven runs, and then added four more in the second to take an 11-1 lead.
Greg Fleury put up some big numbers for Hendricken, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run. Ryan Pierce finished 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Dylan Poloski and Edgar Rodriguez both scored twice in the win.
Will Francis had a productive day in defeat, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run. Brian Abbruzzi and Logan Dubois both scored twice in the loss for Mt. Hope.
Greg Fleury banged out two hits, had a sacrifice fly and drove in four runs as the Hawks upended the Huskies.
As a team, the Hawks totaled 11 hits in the game. Besides Fleury, Parker Boyd, Ryan Pierce, and Dylan Poloski had two hits each.
Mason Marchessault tossed 2-2/3 innings of relief for Hendricken giving up no runs on three hits while striking out five to pick up the victory.
Jack Cirelli, Pilgrim baseball
The Patriots broke open a 1-1 game in the fifth inning when a pair of doubles scored two runs, and two more scored on a fielder's choice and a single.
On the mound, Derrick Butler kept the Bulldogs' bats in check, striking out four and scattering three hits through 6.1 innings, allowing just one run.
Sammy Shelton and Anthony DeLuca both doubled in runs and Jackson Monte's single brought home another in the fifth. Jack Cirelli tacked on another with a sixth-inning RBI single. Dom Berry led Pilgrim with two hits and a run scored, and Kyle Rezendes and Michael Mainelli also recorded RBIs in the win.
Tyler Falcone took the loss for Westerly – four strikeouts, five runs allowed through 4 2/3 innings – and Kevin Saglio brought home the Bulldogs' lone run with an infield groundout.
The Townies continued their assault on the rest of Division I on Monday, pounding out 10 hits and allowing no runs as they cruised to their 10th victory of the season.
Ben Hallene spun a gem on the mound for the hosts, striking out seven and scattering five hits through seven innings.
At the plate, Max Correiro was an offensive machine, with three hits, three RBIs and two runs scored. Lead-off man Gavin Palombo was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and two runs scored. Jamison Sydney went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, and Aidan Martins recorded two hits and two runs.
For Cumberland, Ryan Harris and Micah Cousineau each recorded two hits in the loss.
With the win, East Providence improves to 10-1, and Cumberland slips to 5-4.
Alex Anderson spun a gem and the Eagles did enough on offense to pull out a 4-0 win over the Skippers.
Anderson was the story of the game, as the Barrington ace pulled out every trick in his bag to keep North Kingstown’s offense guessing. The senior was dominant over six innings, allowing just four hits while walking three and striking out five. Nate Countant took over in the seventh and retired all three batters he faced to close out the win.
The Eagles scrapped up a run in the second inning, then took advantage of a Skipper error and passed ball to make it 3-0 in the fourth before Jack Marley hit an RBI single to cap the three-run inning.
Santino Giuffrida led the Barrington offense, going 1-for-3 with one RBI and two runs. Marley had two RBI in the win.
Branden Venditto had two hits for NK. Cory Van Wormer threw 3 2/3 innings, giving up two earned runs, and took the loss. Wyatt Scotti pitched 2 1/3 innings of one-hit relief for North.
Michael DiGioia, South Kingstown Baseball
The Rebels piled up nine hits in the game, two each by Samuel Brandies, Cole Rosen and Michael DiGioia to help them get by the Patriots. Brandies also had two RBI in the game.
Starting pitcher Connor Wokoske earned the win for the Rebels. The righty went six innings, surrendering five hits and three runs (only one earned) while striking out four and walking only one. Elias Totten picked up the save in relief.
Brady MacDonald went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Portsmouth in hits and Avery Amaio, Carter Doran and Chase Blythe each had an RBI in the loss.
Brady Lewis, Ponaganset Baseball
Despite being outhit six to three by the Cougars, the Chieftains made the most of their hits and came away with a 5-0 win.
Starting pitcher Brady Lewis earned the win for the Chieftains, throwing 6 2/3 innings and he held NP to no runs on six hits while striking out eight.
Anthony Murgida had the big hit in the game for Ponaganset, a two-run single in the four-run fifth inning. The way Lewis was pitching, it pretty much put the game away. Joseph Clark and Cooper St. Onge had the other hits for Ponaganset.
Ed Rosario was 1-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and run scored, and on the mound, he tamed the Crusaders through five innings, striking out eight, giving up three hits and just one run.
Alex Abbott had a hit, RBI and scored a run, and Wyatt Dyer also drove in a Titan run.
Max Richmond drove in Prout's lone run with a second-inning single, and Cooper LaBranche took the loss, throwing five innings with two strikeouts, two earned runs allowed and five walks.
The Knights' offense was unstoppable on Monday, scoring seven times in each of the first two innings, then plating 15 more in the fifth in this mercy rule-shortened contest.
Logan Medeiros was a beast at the plate, going 4-for-5 with six RBIS and four runs scored. Tommy Migneault was 3-for-3 with two RBIS and two runs scored, and Ryan Duclos, Gabe Johnson, Ernesto Rocha and Tommy Wood all drove in a pair as well.
David Iannella earned the win with four strikeouts over three innings, and Medeiros pitched two innings of relief.
For the Eagles, Victor Pizarro led the team with two hits, two runs scored and an RBI in the loss.
The Tigers scored early and often in this mercy-rule shortened contest.
Nolan Mercer led the Tiverton attack going 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs. Alex Monkevicz drove in a pair and scored twice and Zack Carreiro and James Conley each scored two runs.
Aiden Sylvia struck out nine and in a complete-game (five innings) one-hitter to earn the win.
Mount Pleasant vs. BVPCF at Macomber Stadium, 4 p.m.
Eli Ozbekhad two hits and drove in a game-high five runs as the Purple doubled-up on the Cavaliers.
Trailing 7-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Classical scored eight runs on five hits and took a 12-7 lead. The big blow in the inning was a three-run double by Ozbek.
Ozbek had a big hit in the sixth inning, as well, as he singled to drive in two runs in the six-run sixth.
The Purple collected 10 hits in the game, drew six walks and stole eight bases.
George Padillaled the Cavaliers with three RBI in the contest.
Jorldanis Gamboa's infield single in the eighth brought home Josh Tejada with what proved to be the winning run, as the visiting Blue Wave outlasted the Patriots through eight innings on Monday.
Tejada was masterful on the bump for Hope, striking out nine and allowing just one hit in a complete-game, extra-inning victory.
Jerry Gamboa, Jose Montero and Sam Garcia also recorded hits in the win.
Davies scored its lone un in the third inning, when Nicholas Packer scored on an error. Nathaniel Wiggins recorded the only Davies hit, and Packer struck out 10 through 6.2 innings in the loss.
Division III
BVPCF 9, Mt. Pleasant 3
Riley Myer, Chariho Softball
Defensive malpractice put the Chargers in a deep hole early, but the bats managed to get them out of it with Riley Myer providing the game-winning hit in the 9-8 win over the Falcons.
Chariho gave away two outs in the third inning and Cranston West took advantage to the tune of six runs. The Falcons were flying high after another Charger error led to two more runs, making it 8-1 after four innings.
The Chariho comeback started in the fifth with one run and an RBI single by Myer and two-run double by Norah Downing. In the seventh, Cranston West returned the favor with a defensive miscue that set up an RBI single by Anna Tretton that cut the deficit to two.
A fielder’s choice brought hom another run and a sacrifice fly by Kesten Hanks tied the game eight with one out. Myer followed with an RBI double that scored Adriana Jeannenot with the go-ahead run and Jeannenot pitched a 1-2-3 seventh to close out the win.
Myer finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Downing had the two RBI and Tretton had three hits with one run and one RBI. Jeannenot threw a complete-game, giving up eight runs – only one earned – while striking out eight.
Alexa Okolowitz and Nicole Silvestri both went 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs for West. Payton Wells finished 2-for-3 with two RBI in the loss.
Mary McGovern threw well in the circle and delivered a three-run RBI double in the sixth that brought home the needed runs in the Oakers’ 5-2 win over the Quakers.
McGovern was dealing for Coventry and Celia Bodurtha was doing the same for Moses Brown. The Oakers scrapped up runs in the second and third, but the Quakers got one back in the fourth before tying the game on an error in the top of the sixth.
In the bottom half, two walks and a single by Leah Lapham got Coventry started. McGovern came through in the clutch, hitting a 3-2 pitch to left that brought home three runs. She took care of business in the seventh with a strikeout and two groundouts to secure the win.
McGovern threw seven strong innings, giving up two hits with six walks and striking out 13 batters. She drove in four of the Oakers’ five runs and scored the other.
Elodie Cannon scored both runs for Moses Brown in the loss.
The Bulldogs pounced on three fifth-inning errors by the Crusaders, getting five runs that put them ahead for good in the 8-2 win.
Prout tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the fourth before everything unraveled in the fifth. Three straight errors led to four Westerly runs and a sacrifice fly by Payton Jarvis made it 7-2.
Freshman Madelyn Harvey led the Bulldogs at the plate with three RBI and one run. Danica Gingerella scored three runs and Abiagael Emery had three hits in the win. Frankie Arnold threw a complete-game four-hitter, striking out 10.
Megan Gardiner led Prout, driving in one run and scoring the other on an RBI from Caroline Smith.
Aubrey Bernard, East Providence softball
Aubrey Bernard and Caroline Welch led a potent offensive attack as the Townies made quick work of the Clippers in a 13-1, four-inning win.
East Providence swung a big bat early, getting two runs in the first inning that was just a sign of things to come. The Townies put up six more in the second and scored five in the last two, walking off with the win via the 12-run rule on a two-run home run by freshman Avery Duarte.
Bernard also went deep for East Providence, finishing the game 1-for-4 with four RBI and one run. Welch went 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs and one RBI. Ava Silva went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run and Ella Grimley finished 3-for-3 with two runs. Avery Leddy scored three times to help EP and Marianna Pina drove in a pair of runs.
Cassandra Dulude threw all four innings for the Townies, spreading out six hits while striking out four.
Emma Cruise had the lone RBI for Cumberland and Madelyn Crawford scored the run.
The Patriots offense had plenty of pop and used it to stop a five-game losing streak with a 13-3 win over the Bengals.
Pilgrim’s Skylar Hawes scored in the first on a passed ball and Natalie Fratus scored the same way in the second. The scoring didn’t stop there as the Patriots added four more in the third. Bay View couldn’t do much to slow Pilgrim down and the game ended in the sixth on a walk-off sacrifice fly by freshman Kayleigh Zonfrillo.
Gretchen Dombeck did some hitting, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs. Abigail Bryson went 2-for-3 with one RI and two runs and Addison Dempsey went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Kaelyn Shea and Zonfrilloboth drove in a pair and Maddie Tuirok scored twice in the win.
Lexi Fredericks went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI in the loss.
Molly Ganim, Lincoln Softball
The Lions put up a crooked number in the second and Mary Ganin didn’t let it go to waste in a 14-1 win over the Broncos.
Lincoln scored one run in the top of the first, then put the game away in the second. The Lions plated seven runs in the inning, ripping off three straight RBI singles before a sacrifice fly by Chloe Landry made it 5-0. Brielle Lambert followed with an RBI double and she later scored on a passed ball before Kayleigh Gouchie’s double made it 8-0 after two.
Two runs would have worked for Ganim, who threw five innings of one-hit ball with zero walks and nine strikeouts.
Landry was a beast at the plate for Lincoln, going 2-for-4 with five RBI and one run. Lambert drove in a pair, Payton Bernardino scored twice and Gouchie had two hits with one RBI and one run.
Emma Leduc drove in the lone run for BNS in the fifth inning.
Erica Kostarides and Abbie O’Rourke got the Rebels going early and the bats didn’t stop there in a 13-3 win over the Spartans.
Scituate struck first, but O’Rourke hit an RBI triple to tie the game before Kostarides’ sacrifice fly put South Kingstown up for good. The Rebels scored two more runs in the first inning and then added three in the second – one on a Kostarides triple and two on an inside-the-park home run by Lynden Conley – and never looked back.
Kostarides mashed, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs, and struck out 10 batters in her six innings of work. O’Rourke finished 2-for-5 with three runs and two RBI and Tessa O’Sullivan scoed three runs. Conley had two RBI and two runs and Sofia Lawless scored twice in the win.
Haley Nickerson provided the pop for Scituate, going 3-for-3 with three RBI.
Kent County took a comfortable lead into the fourth, then piled on 14 runs en route to a 22-1 win over the Villa Novans.
After a scoreless first inning, Kent County scored four runs in the second and third innings before the offense exploded, taking advantage of everything Woonsocket handed over while pounding the ball all over the yard.
Freshman Nevaeh DeCosta led the way for Kent County, going 3-for-3 with two RBI and four runs. Charlotte Horak finished 3-for-3 with four runs and Sarah Payan also scored four times and drove in a pair.
Aria Eddy and Sophie Moreira both had two RBI in the win.
Madison Clayton, North Providence Softball
The Cougars top three crushed the ball and took advantage of the Division III Warriors in a 15-0 win.
Mariana Xavier had the first big hit of the game, a two-run home run that put North Providence up 3-0 after the first inning. The Cougars followed with eight runs in the second and four in the third, walking off via the 15-run rule after Makenna Heon’s bases-clearing triple.
Hitting leadoff, Heon finished 1-for-1 with four RBI and two runs. No. 2 hitter Madison Clayton finished 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs and Xavier, hitting third, was 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. Liliana Albanese had a nice day as well, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Sydney Drew scored two runs in the win.
Olivia Geib-Ayala threw an abbreviated no-hitter, striking out three batters in her three innings of work.
Lexi Montalban, Cranston East softball
Lexi Montalban’s two-run triple broke the game open in the fourth as the Thunderbolts took down Pawtucket, 10-4.
Pawtucket scored the first three runs of the game, but Cranston East responded with two in the bottom of the third. With momentum on their side, the Thunderbolts kept the bats going in the fourth, getting an RBI single from Leanna Garcia that tied the game before an error put them ahead by one. Up stepped Montalban, who hit a two-run triple that was immediately followed by a Cydnee Meekins RBI single for a 7-3 advantage.
Montalban paced the East offense, going 2-for-4 with three RBI. Skylah Belmont-Gomez and Aniah Parker both scored twice in the win.
The Knights took six steps forward for every step back and a monster of a third inning allowed them to walk off with a 22-8 win over the Patriots.
Davies came out swinging, getting three in the top of the first, but Central answered with two runs. The Patriots scored two more, but the Knights responded with eight. Davies cut the deficit to three with two in the top of the third, but Central scored 12 in the bottom half to end the game via the 12-run rule.
Julia Hoffman had two RBI and scored four runs to lead Central, while Jaslene Nina scored twice and drove in two runs. Rayanna Rosario also drove in two runs and scored twice.
Kylie Robert and Darelyn Maldonado scored two runs in the loss for Davies.
Stacey Vasquez and Balerin Ramirez had the Cavaliers humming, as the scored 18 runs in the final two innings of their 23-12 win over the Navigators.
The score was tied at five after two innings when Paul Cuffee put seven up on the board in the top of the third, but Juanita Sanchez responded with a dozen. After Keasia Mulbah quieted the Navigator bats in the fourth, the Cavaliers scored six times to end the afternoon early.
Vasquez finished the day 3-for-3 with two RBI and three runs. Ramirez went 1-for-1 and drove in four while scoring four times. Karla Cruz also had four RBI and Veasna Yean and Najely Cruz both had two RBI. Josmeily Minier, Evanesence Franco and Jayleni Martinez scored three runs apiece.

William Stimson, Mt. Hope boys lacrosse
Ben Browne paced the Huskies with three goals and an assist, Charlie Knapman scored four goals and made five assists, Nathan Carpenter had three goals, Brayden Vales had a pair, as did Aedan Nelson. In net, Ethan LaBollita had eight saves in the win.
For the Broncos, Tyler Brewer and Tiago Deschamps each scored a goal, and goalie Michael Tremblay made 15 saves in the loss.

The Chieftains came alive in the fourth quarter and got a stellar start in goal from backup Samantha Gauthier in an 8-5 win over the Northmen.
With starting goalie Kaelyn Souza out for the game, Ponaganset turned to Gauthier and the junior made the move pay off immediately with eight saves in the first half that had her team up 2-0 at the break.
Eva Corriveau brought North Smithfield back in the third. She scored in the first minute of the second half and, following an Emily Smith goal, getting another with 20 seconds left to give the Northmen a 3-2 lead going to the fourth.
North Smithfield led 4-2 in the fourth when Ponaganset’s offense awoke. Quick goals by Lana Hess and Eve Dexter tied the game at four and Katie Damiano followed soon thereafter with he go-ahead score. Hess added another, North Smithfield got one to cut the deficit to one but Sophie Pirnie and Damiano both had tallies late and a pair of Gauthier saves put the game away.
Alyssa Karalekas scpred a game high seven goals to lead the Townies. Nadiyah Calouro-Vargas had three goals, and Penelope Flynn and Sydney Olson each scored in the win.
For the Thunderbolts, Asianalese Calderon scored twice, and Macy Barron and Mia San each scored.
In net, East Providence goalie Salem O'Neil made seven saves and Cranston East's Bryanna Tiu had nine.
Silia Marantidis, Coventry Girls Lacrosse
Addie DeMarzo paced the Oakers with three goals, Hailey Duggan and Kaylee Fratus each scored once and goalie Maddy Vorro made 14 saves in the win.
For the Lions, Quinn Grubman, Riley Bouthillette and Andrea Urizar each scored, and goalie Emmy Albuquerque had five saves in the loss.

Ziyue Wang, Cranston West boys volleyball
Eli Lopez recorded 21 kills, six digs and two assists, Ziyue Wang had 15 kills and Ashton Mak had nine kills in the win (25-18, 31-29, 17-25, 25-21).
For the Wizards, Collin Kelly 20 kills and 12 blocks, and Ian Degnan made 49 assists in the loss.
Aggerson Vetiaque and Jordan Friscone dominated at the net with 23 and 19 kills, respectively, andRobbie Danielsamassed 51 assists in the Falcons 3-2 win over the Skippers.
Sean Peters had 24 kills for for NK in the loss.
Pilgrim's Connor McColl recorded 11 kills and Caden Stowik had seven in the victory (25-18, 25-9, 26-24).
Elijah Arrington paced Johnston with six blocks and six kills, and Michael Mills had 11 assists in the loss.
Rowan Pereira paced the Titans with 16 kills and six aces, Gianni Young-Wright had 23 Assists and Matthew Pella-Sabourin added seven kills in the win (25-22, 26-24, 25-23).
For the Saints, Jaymeson Taylor led the way with five kills and four blocks, and Brighton Champagne added a kill, two blocks and 13 digs in the loss.
The play of Chase Wolstencroft(kills, 4 aces, 26 assists, 4 digs), Luke Brock(8 kills, 1 ace, 12 digs) and Sean Cantino(10 kills, 2 ace's, 2 assists, 11 digs paved the way for the Rebels' victory (26-24, 25-21, 15-25 and 25-18) over the Warriors.
For CF in the loss, Nicholas Goncalves had 7 kills and 2 blocks and teammate Rafael Da Lombarecorded 5 kills and 4 blocks.
EWG got yeoman efforts from Will Edwards (41 assists) Casey Kretchman (18 kills, 8 digs) and Derik Peyette (14 digs) which paved the way for its win over the Blue Wave, 25-20, 25-17, 25-27, 25-21.
Hope had strong outings in the loss from Karl Desir(12 Kills, 7 digs, 3 blocks), Faith Wilson (8 kills, 10 blocks, 3 digs) and Pierre Sanatus (11 kills, 4 blocks, 3 digs)
Jordan Robertson had 11 kills and four digs for the Kilties, Jeremias Ixcuna had 28 assists, and Athony Berroa recorded nine kills and five digs in the win (25-16, 25-21-25-22).
No stats for Burrillville were provided.
Caden Hicks led the Cougars with 11 kills and five blocks, and Milan Mistry had six kills and four aces in the win.
For Achievement First, Emmanuel Vargas Rodriguez led the way with six kills, two aces and five digs.
