The Jacksonville Jaguars have met with top cornerback prospect Chris Johnson ahead of the 2026 NFL draft. Johnson, from San Diego State, is being considered to enhance the Jaguars' defense.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have taken the time to meet with one of the top cornerback prospects in the 2026 NFL draft.
According to NFL insider Aaron Wilson, the Jaguars are one of several teams to meet virtually wth San Diego State cornerback Chris Johnson.
Let's take a look at what Johnson could add to the Jaguars' defense.
Johnson has started the last two seasons, with most of his snaps coming lined up outside. This past season, in particular, Johnson was very stingy in coverage, allowing a completion rate of just 42% and only 10.3 yards per catch. He had good ball production as well, totaling four interceptions and five pass breakups. Johnson was named a second-team All-American.
Johnson is the 38th-ranked prospect on the consensus big board and the fifth-ranked cornerback in this year's class. Many mock drafts have him being taken in the first round.
For a closer look at Johnson's game, here is what NFL.com's Lance Zierlein had to say in his pre-draft scouting report:
"Scheme-versatile cornerback prospect with average size and the ability to play inside or outside. Johnson is consistent in mirroring the release from his pedal and rarely labors when transitioning with route breaks. While many college corners lean on lax officiating to grab and maul, Johnson stays disciplined. He trusts his footwork and technique to remain tight to the route. He attacks the catch point with run-through force and is a tenacious wrap-up tackler who can quickly end plays. Big receivers can steal some high-points, but not enough to cause concern. Johnson’s coverage versatility, toughness and athleticism should make him an early starter for a coverage-hungry team."
Chris Johnson is a cornerback from San Diego State, recognized for his exceptional skills and performance, making him a leading prospect in the 2026 NFL draft.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are among several teams that have met virtually with Chris Johnson as they evaluate potential draft picks.
Chris Johnson could significantly enhance the Jaguars' defense with his skills, potentially improving their overall performance in the upcoming NFL season.

Adding Montaric Brown back into the mix greatly reduced the Jaguars' need to address the cornerback position. He and Travis Hunter will likely start on the outside, Jourdan Lewis will be at the nickel, while Jarrian Jones provides experienced depth. I would guess we still see James Gladstone add to this position in the draft, but no longer does doing so right away feel like a must.
