A tribute to Dortmund: The BVB home kit for the 2026/27 season
The central design element is a striking graphic pattern. It references the Minister Stein coal mine, whose closure marks its 40th anniversary in 2027, and the Dortmunder U, which celebrates its centenary this year. Together, they stand for a city that has continually reinvented itself. On the jersey, the classic BVB yellow comes to life through a textured pattern that echoes the architectural forms of the mine and the surrounding city skyline.
“This jersey embodies Dortmund – the city’s landmarks, history, and transformation are reflected in the design. When our players step onto the pitch wearing this jersey, they represent not only BVB and Dortmund, but also tradition and change,” explains Kerstin Zerbe, Managing Director of BVB Merchandising GmbH. “It’s never easy to translate such a feeling into a design. But we worked closely with PUMA to achieve exactly that – and to give our fans a true piece of Dortmund.”
To launch the kit, PUMA and BVB have created an AI-generated world: “Built Like Dortmund.” It reimagines the city and the club in a futuristic visual landscape. A real setting that captures this industrial aesthetic is brought to life by the players, connecting the AI world, the new kit, and BVB’s identity into a unified vision.
