A walk in Memorial Park: Nelly Korda cruises to 2026 Chevron Championship title

HOUSTON – U.S. Solheim Cup captain Angela Stanford flipped on the TV on Thursday and thought: "They're in trouble."

The look she'd saw from Nelly Korda was one she hadn't seen before.

"She kind of has that look of, I'm sick and tired of second place," said Stanford. "Like, it literally, she looks like, I'm not leaving this property without trophy."

Korda opened the first Chevron Championship at Memorial Park with a brilliant 65 and kept the hammer down the rest of the way, carding a second 65 to set a 36-hole tournament scoring record. On Saturday, she tied the 54-hole scoring record for the Chevron and cruised on Sunday with a smooth 2-under 70 to finish 19 under overall and five shots clear of major champions Ruoning Yin and Patty Tavatanakit.

Korda's 2026 season is one of historic proporitions. She became third player in tour history to start a season with five consecutive starts of T-2 or better. The only other players to do it: Karrie Webb (2000) and Annika Sorenstam (2001). They both went on to win majors those years.

The victory at Memorial Park gives Korda her 17th career LPGA title and third major. Only six American players have won their third LPGA major before age 28: Patty Berg, Louise Suggs, Betsy Rawls, Mickey Wright, Kathy Whitworth and Amy Alcott. Korda becomes the seventh.
