It is impossible to predict the NFL draft. Many try every year by way of mock drafts. But it is an exercise in futility. The NFL is so unpredictable and we have such small understanding of how things are going to go. Teams can zig or they can zag.
It would appear that the Dallas Cowboys have one zig or zag that they will be paying very close attention to on Thursday night, though.
In recent months we have dreamt about different Ohio State Buckeyes falling to the Dallas Cowboys. Sonny Styles feels impossible. Caleb Downs feels impossible. Maybe they wind up happening, but an impossible feeling is hard to ignore.
If those two are impossible, Arvell Reese isn’t even worth discussing. Or is he?
Adam Schefter reported that if Reese slips through the first four selections that the Cowboys may pounce.
A specific unpredictable scenario during the draft could prompt the Cowboys to trade up to secure a desired player.
The NFL draft is unpredictable due to teams' varying strategies and the potential for unexpected player selections.

There are draft surprises every year, with players going in spots no one forecasted. Here’s one that, depending on how the first few picks play out, has generated some speculation in a handful of front offices.
If the Jets take Texas Tech edge rusher David Bailey at No. 2, which many believe will happen …
If the Cardinals then take Love, which appears to be gaining some traction …
And if the Titans then take Ohio State linebacker Sonny Styles, which is one of Tennessee’s options …
Then Ohio State edge rusher Arvell Reese — or Bailey, if the Jets take Reese at No. 2 — could slide to No. 5. It would suddenly be very tempting for a team such as the Cowboys to potentially trade up for a top-tier pass rusher. Again, the draft would have to go a specific way for this scenario to play out. But two teams raised this scenario this weekend, wondering if it somehow could unfold this week. It’s exactly the type of scenario that makes the draft so compelling.
To be clear, Schefter outlines this same possibility for Texas Tech pass rusher David Bailey, but it appears that the Cowboys really want to come away with one of the premier defenders in this class and are ready to act to do so.
Earlier in the report Schefter noted that Dallas would like to hold on to pick number 20 overall, but moving up from 12 to 5 would likely require spending it.
Do you think any of this is possible? How would you feel if it actually happened?
