The AHSAA soccer state championships have been rescheduled due to severe weather forecasts, with key games moved to avoid storms. The Class 1-3A boys championship will now take place on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
HUNTSVILLE — Projected severe weather has led to major changes to the schedule for the AHSAA soccer state championships.
The tournament was delayed before it could even start as weather rolled through Huntsville on Wednesday morning. It led to about a 45 minute delay ahead of the start of the Class 4A girls semifinals. Now the final two sets of games, the 1-3A semifinals, on Wednesday, May 6 will be moved to Thursday, May 7 to avoid the sever weather that is projected for Wednesday evening.
The Class 1-3A boys championship will move from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday as well.
There is a chance of rain throughout the evening hours. The National Weather Service issued a level two risk of severe storms and forecasted that it would hit the Huntsville area around 4 p.m. The NWS has forecasted a chance of wind gust up to 60 miles-per-hour with a chance of hail and tornadoes for north Alabama. There is also a chance for flooding in the area, meaning the impacts could linger into Thursday of the final four.
