Alabama extends Kalen DeBoer ahead of potentially pivotal season

Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer enters what could be a pivotal third season in Tuscaloosa, but he's already agreed to a new deal with the Crimson Tide.

The school has extended DeBoer, according to a report from On3's Wilson Alexander. The seven-year deal, which was formally approved by the Alabama board of trustees on Wednesday, raises DeBoer's salary from $10.3 million in 2025 to $12.5 million, according to 247Sports' Alex Scarborough.

The Tide also extended defensive coordinator Kane Wommack, general manager Courtney Morgan and the majority of the coaching staff.

Per Alexander, the extension came amid interest from Michigan in hiring DeBoer to replace Sherrone Moore this offseason. DeBoer currently holds a 20-8 record with the Crimson Tide, and though he's coming off a trip to the CFP quarterfinals, he's likely under at least some pressure this season after 'Bama's blowout loss to eventual champion Indiana in the Rose Bowl.

DeBoer's buyout also dropped substantially as part of the new deal. Now, he would only be owed $10 million if he were fired in the next two seasons. That buyout drops to $8 million after 2027.

Though the Alabama fanbase may still have its questions about DeBoer after back-to-back four-loss seasons, it seems athletics director Greg Byrne and the Crimson Tide are hitching their wagon to him.
