Sometimes when it comes to the NFL Draft, teams outsmart themselves. They overanalyze, overpick, and end up passing on a guy who was right in front of them the whole time. And if Beanie Wells is right, that could easily happen with Ty Simpson, and it would be a mistake.
When you hear someone say, âthe NFL would be crazy to let him get out of the first round,â thatâs not just hype. Thatâs someone recognizing raw ability and long-term potential. And with Simpson, that potential is real. Heâs not just another college quarterback coming out of a big program like Alabama Crimson Tide, heâs a guy with tools you simply canât teach.
First off, the arm talent jumps out immediately. Simpson has that kind of arm that makes throws look effortless. Deep balls, tight windows, off-platform throws, itâs all there. You canât coach that kind of natural ability. Itâs something you either have or you donât, and Simpson has plenty of it. That alone is going to have NFL scouts paying attention.
But what really makes this conversation interesting is the comparison to Josh Allen. Thatâs not a casual comparison. Allen came into the league as a high-upside quarterback with a big arm, some raw edges, and questions about consistency. Fast forward a few years, and heâs one of the most dangerous quarterbacks in the entire NFL.
Thatâs the blueprint people are starting to see with Simpson.
He may not be a finished product right now, and honestly, most college quarterbacks arenâtâbut the ceiling is what separates him. Some guys come into the draft already close to who theyâre going to be. Simpson isnât that. Heâs the kind of player who could develop into something much bigger with the right coaching, the right system, and a little patience.
And thatâs where teams have to be careful.
If youâre drafting late in the first round and need a quarterback, passing on a guy like Simpson because heâs not âperfectâ yet could come back to haunt you. The league has already seen what happens when a quarterback with elite physical tools gets developed the right way. It turns into franchise-changing talent.
At the same time, thereâs always risk. Banking on potential doesnât always work out, and teams know that. But the difference here is that Simpsonâs potential isnât just based on flashes, itâs backed by real, tangible traits that translate to the next level.
Ty Simpson is considered a top prospect due to his impressive arm talent and the ability to make difficult throws effortlessly.
NFL analysts believe that Ty Simpson possesses raw ability and long-term potential that could make him a valuable pick in the draft.
Teams risk missing out on a highly talented quarterback, as analysts suggest they could regret not selecting him in the first round.

At the end of the day, this comes down to how teams view upside versus polish. If youâre looking for a safe pick, maybe you go another direction. But if youâre looking for a quarterback who could eventually take over games, lead a franchise, and become one of the best in the league, then Ty Simpson deserves to be in that first-round conversation.
Because if he falls too far, someoneâs going to get a steal, and a lot of teams are going to wish they hadnât overthought it.
