And on Monday night in Knoxville, Alabama softball felt that.
The Crimson Tide walked into that rubber match with a chance to take yet another SEC series, and instead walked away with a 4-1 loss to Tennessee, marking their first conference series loss of the season. You could feel it... maybe, just maybe, something was brewing.
Ambrey Taylor followed by getting on base after being hit by a pitch and even moved into scoring position. The tying run was somewhere in the distance⊠but Alabama just couldnât get it across the finish line. Three straight strikeouts ended the game, the rally, and ultimately the series.
And yeah⊠that one stings.
This wasnât just any loss. It was Alabamaâs first SEC series loss of the season after winning six of their first seven. That matters. Not because it defines them, but because of how they respond to it.
There are still plenty of positives, even in a tough night.
Jocelyn Briski continues to be one of the most reliable arms in the country. This marked just her second loss all season, and notably, the two unearned runs she allowed were the first unearned runs sheâs given up all year. That tells you everything about the consistency sheâs brought to the circle.
And then thereâs Hubbardâs moment, that swing matters. Late in the season, finding players who can step up in big situations off the bench is huge. Thatâs the kind of depth championship teams have.
