Alabama Softball Earns No. 1 Overall Seed, Tuscaloosa Ready for Another Postseason Run

For the first time since 2010, Alabama Crimson Tide softball is heading into the NCAA Tournament as the No. 1 overall national seed, and honestly, it feels like this team has earned every bit of it.

When the bracket was revealed Sunday night, Alabama officially locked in its 27th straight NCAA Tournament appearance while also extending another unbelievable streak with its 21st consecutive season hosting as a top-16 national seed. In today’s world of college athletics, consistency like that just does not happen by accident.

That is the standard Patrick Murphy has built in Tuscaloosa.

The Crimson Tide will host Southeastern Louisiana, Belmont and USC Upstate at Rhoads Stadium beginning Friday, May 15. Alabama opens regional play Friday afternoon against USC Upstate at noon on SEC Network.

What makes this moment feel even bigger is how dominant Alabama has been all season long. This wasn’t a team that snuck into the top spot late. The Crimson Tide owns a 74-12 all-time record in NCAA Regional play and an even more ridiculous 67-6 mark at Rhoads Stadium.

Alabama has won 19 of the 20 home regionals it has hosted under the current format, including 17 undefeated regional weekends.

That is dominance.
