Former Ipswich Town and Scotland forward Alan Brazil has announced that a recent operation saved his life.
In a post on X, the 66-year-old said he was "deeply grateful to the brilliant medical team" who cared for him.
The TalkSPORT broadcaster has been absent from his breakfast radio show since March.
He made more than 150 league appearances for Ipswich and went on to play for Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, before finishing his playing career at non-league Wivenhoe Town near Colchester in Essex.
He wrote: "I recently had a life-saving operation and I'm deeply grateful to the brilliant medical team who have looked after me.
"It will be some time yet before I'm fully back to myself and for now I am focused on my recovery in private.
"Thank you to my family and those close to me who've been supporting me [and] putting up with me."
Brazil did not reveal details of the surgery or what he was treated for.
Hundreds of people sent him their well-wishes in response to the post, shared on Monday morning.
He has hosted TalkSPORT's breakfast show for more than 25 years.
The radio station said: "Everyone at TalkSPORT wishes Alan all the best in his recovery."
