Neville, a known opponent of Carrick’s appointment, made it clear that he could get behind his stay, but only under a short-term arrangement. Shearer has backed this stance.
Speaking on the BBC, Shearer said, “They brought him in to do a specific job, and he has done that job very, very well.”
“He’s won in big games as well. He’s beaten [Manchester] City, beaten Arsenal, beaten Liverpool.”
“So for me, yes, he at least deserves the chance to go again. I don’t know, maybe a one-year contract with different incentives if he hits different targets. But he was brought in to do a job, and he’s done that job.”
No club has collected more Premier League points than United since Carrick came in, which further highlights the magnitude of his influence.
