LEWISBURG, Pa. — Allegany graduate Avery Miller, a freshman at Penn State, is first place in the heptathlon after Day 1 at the Bison Outdoor Classic hosted by Bucknell.
Miller, who missed the indoor season with an injury, is competing as an unattached athlete to preserve her redshirt eligibility.
Miller has been a full participant in practice for the past two months and was cleared for competition Thursday.
The freshman has a 186-point lead on second-place Rachel Keul of Delaware. Miller won the 200-meter run and shot put and was third in both the 100m hurdles and high jump for 2,891 points.
The long jump, javelin throw and 800m events close out the competition Monday.
