Aldershot manager Coleman to leave after five months

Aldershot Town have mutually terminated manager John Coleman's contract after five months in charge.

The 63-year-old replaced former boss Tommy Widdrington in October last year and will leave the National League club along with player-coach James Henry.

Both Coleman and Henry will remain in place for Aldershot's final match of the season against Truro before departing.

Coleman's departure comes just 10 days after new club owner Deane Wood claimed the manager would "definitely" be at the club next season.

The Shots have struggled in recent games, losing each of their past four matches and are 20th in the National League table.

After their 2-1 defeat at Brackley Town on Saturday, Coleman was far from impressed with his players and admitted they are not at the level required.

"I've been kidded thinking that I've got players who are good enough," he told BBC Radio Surrey after the game.

"The brutal fact is that the players aren't good enough, and this football club and the travelling supporters, they deserve better than what they saw today.

"They will get better next season because I will have to assemble a side that cares and that has technically better footballers, that today was nowhere near enough."

Shots owner Wood recently revealed that the club would face significant financial losses in the near future as they are braced to lose potentially up to £800,000 this year.

Previously in his coaching career, Coleman has managed Accrington Stanley, Rochdale and Gillingham.
