As the Colts' offseason program begins, star wide receiver Alec Pierce will not present. The newly paid man recently underwent surgery on his ankle, according to general manager Chris Ballard.
Alec Pierce is coming off a breakout 2025 campaign where he posted a career-high 1,003 yards on only 47 receptions. The speedster also tacked on six touchdowns in his sparkling year. The primary deep threat for the Colts formed a great chemistry with fellow breakout quarterback Daniel Jones. The pair connected on long balls all season long, thriving in the deep passing game.
With Daniel Jones at quarterback, the Colts went 8-5 but fell off the rails once the rising star was injured. The unfortunate Achilles tear also stifled the surprisingly great season from Alec Pierce.
In response to Pierce's breakout year, the Colts awarded him with a lucrative contract in the offseason. Indianapolis didn't allow any other team to steal him away in free agency, as they gave him an offer he couldn't pass up. The Colts paid the wide receiver a whopping four-year, $114 million contract. Pierce is now among the highest-paid receivers in the NFL.
Without Daniel Jones to begin the 2026 season and in the aftermath of ankle surgery, the Colts will hope that Pierce can live up to his new contract and produce in a similar way to 2025.
While the ankle surgery will hold him out of the start of the Colts offseason program, the receiver should be ready to go when training camp begins in July.
