On opposite sides in an NBA playoff series, Alex Caruso continues to show LeBron James love. The Oklahoma City Thunder have built up a 2-0 series lead over the Los Angeles Lakers, but you won't hear a lick of criticism from anybody sensible about the 41-year-old.
James has been the Lakers' best player through two playoff games. He's averaged 25 points, six assists and three rebounds. You could argue he's outplayed Shai Gilgeous-Alexander — which has barely moved the needle in terms of who wins this Round 2 matchup.
Caruso can thank James for jumpstarting his NBA career. He went undrafted before he landed on the Lakers in 2017. In his four seasons there, he worked his way up the rotation. To the point that he was an important piece to Los Angeles' 2020 NBA championship.

Six years later, Caruso hopes to add a third NBA ring to his collection. The 32-year-old has been your classic playoff riser. He's been one of OKC's five most important players in the high-leverage moments. Even if the box score stats are pedestrain, his impact and advanced metrics paint a different picture.
The Thunder are overwhelming favorites to beat the Lakers. Especially with Luka Doncic's absence. But Caruso knows they can't sleepwalk their way through playoff wins when James is on the other side. Even at his old age, he's one of the most threatening players in a game.
“He’s always ready for the moment. Everybody wants to talk about his age, but he’s still LeBron James," Caruso said. "He’s still capable of being the best player on the court any given night.”
Good to see the Thunder not underestimate the Lakers. Even without Doncic. That's helped them create a daunting 2-0 series lead with both being 18-point wins. They'll need to continue that mindset in Games 3 and 4. As James returns to his home gym.
