Unfortunately for the Boston Red Sox, their offense failed to show up in their first game against the New York Yankees this season.
Coming off their highest run total at home this year on Monday against the Detroit Tigers, the Red Sox's lineup fell flat on Tuesday, getting shut out for the second time in eight days.
Boston couldn't get anything going against Luis Gil and the Yankees' bullpen, managing just four hits and three walks as the Red Sox were shut out at home by their archrivals for the first time since 2020.
After the game, Alex Cora called out Boston's latest poor performance at the plate.
"Not much. Didn't hit the ball hard," Cora said during his postgame press conference. "Willson in the first inning, Narvy the line drive to right-center, but besides that, I don't think we hit the ball hard at all. We swung a lot. It was fast in the middle innings for Gil... We didn't put pressure on him."

Despite knocking only one extra-base hit, the Red Sox still had several scoring opportunities. They failed to capitalize on any of them, however, going 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and leaving seven men on base.
With just 12 runs over its last five games -- all at Fenway Park -- Boston is in a major slump right now. The team's offense has been plagued by many issues, including a lack of power, poor plate discipline and struggles with men on base.
The Red Sox need to start hitting soon if they want to turn their season around, but that won't be easy against the Max Fried and Cam Schlittler over the next two days.
