The Philadelphia Phillies are quietly going into a situation that they weren't hoping for just a few months ago. As things looked for the Phillies entering spring training, there was still some hope that this core could be very good if they were healthy and hitting at the right moment.

Unfortunately, over the past few years, those two realities haven't happened when it matters most.

We can say that for a lot of teams, but if the Phillies just swung the bat at a high level for a couple of series in the postseason, this is a team that nobody in baseball would want to play.

On the flip side, there are now a lot of questions about what the future of this organization looks like, and some of that has an impact on Alex Cora, who Philadelphia seemingly believes will be its next skipper.

“If not? Then this season could mark the beginning of the end of one of the great eras in franchise history. And Cora, when evaluating his options, might think twice about joining a team that isn’t what it was, and might not reach that level again,” Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic wrote.

It's fair to mention that Cora might not want to be with a team that isn't as good as he was hoping for.

If he couldn't win with that squad, it's only right to question whether the Phillies will have similar struggles.
