Speaking to the âTennis Channel,â Eala was asked whether she feels any extra pressure because of her large fanbase.
âOf course, I want to give back as much as they give to me,â she said.
âBut the obligation first and foremost is to myself. Itâs my journey. I am really super grateful that all of these supporters want to follow in that journey that I have, but I owe it to myself first and foremost and to my family and team to give it everything that I have.â
Eala has built up plenty of support since breaking through at the 2025 Miami Open, giving her fans good reason for excitement along the way.
The 20-year-old currently holds a spot inside the top 20 in the âLive WTA Raceâ standings, with 842 points this season â more than Grand Slam winners Madison Keys, Naomi Osaka, or Emma Raducanu.

Fonseca is part of what some are calling tennisâs ânew big threeâ, alongside Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. People have even started making comparisons between Fonseca and Eala.
Asked about those similarities during her interview with âTennis Channelâ, Eala responded: âIâm flattered to be compared to him.â

Eala gave her supporters something to cheer about, starting her 2026 Italian Open campaign with a win.
She came through a tough three-set battle against Magdalena Frech, winning 6-0, 3-6, 6-4 to move into the next round.
The victory underlined the progress Eala has made on clay over the past year. At last yearâs tournament, she went out in the opening round without taking a set.
This time around, she defeated the world number 45 to reach round two. Next up for Eala is Chinaâs Xinyu Wang, who comes into the event as the 31st seed.
Their last meeting ended in Wangâs favour earlier this year at the ASB Classic in Auckland, giving her a head-to-head edge over Eala so far.
Eala will be looking to even their record when they play again in Rome. A win would put her into the third round of a Masters 1000 event on clay for the first time.
The match is scheduled for Friday, March 8th. It should be well worth tuning in for.
