Alex Pereira’s first reaction to finding out he was going to be on the cover of the new UFC game wasn’t what you’d expect.
The Brazilian is well known for rarely speaking English, usually relying on his trainer, Plinio Cruz, to translate or just sticking with his trademark “Chama.” But this time, holding a copy of UFC 6 and seeing himself on the cover, he managed a few words.
It’s hard to argue against his selection. Pereira holds titles in both the middleweight and light-heavyweight divisions and is now chasing a historic third belt. He’s set to face Ciryl Gane in an interim heavyweight title fight this June.
A video shared on social media by EA Sports captured Alex Pereira’s reaction to being handed a copy of the new UFC 6 video game during a promotional shoot inside the octagon. His response was immediate, switching from English to his native Portuguese.
“Holy s—,” he said as he looked at the box. “Oh my God, amazing.”
Speaking in Portuguese, he added: “I think this is absolutely cool, and for being in the game UFC 6? Yeah I like my photo here, it’s one of my favourite ones. We see with this how much I’m being recognised for what I’ve done. And to be on the cover of the new game is amazing. Chama!”
