The Allegany boys and Mountain Ridge girls won the WestMAC championship meet, with close team competitions. Key individual performances included multiple wins by Allegany's Jack Taylor and Fort Hill's EJ Scott.
OAKLAND — Eight individuals won multiple events, and the Allegany boys and Mountain Ridge girls captured team titles at the Western Maryland Athletic Conference championship meet on Thursday at Southern High.
Both team competitions came down to the wire. The Allegany boys edged Fort Hill, 127-125, followed by Mountain Ridge (85), Southern (24) and Northern (7). The Mountain Ridge girls took first with 108 points, just clear of Fort Hill’s 105 and ahead of Allegany (96), Southern (40) and Northern (21).
Allegany’s Jack Taylor, Fort Hill’s EJ Scott and Casey Martz, and Mountain Ridge’s Zach Haberlein and Austin Simpson won two events each on the boys side.
Taylor won the 1600-meter run in a time of 4:50.1 and the 3200m in 11:17.8, Scott was victorious in the 110m hurdles (16.0) and triple jump (39’ 8.5”), Martz took gold the shot put (51’ 4”) and discus (133’ 11.25”), Haberlein topped the field in the 100m (11.3) and 200m (22.5), and Simpson ended first in the 400m (51.3) and 800m (2:05.7).
Other event winners included Allegany’s Hayden Linaburg (pole vault, 10’) and Chris Manherz (long jump, 19’ 9.25”), Fort Hill’s Chase Lamb (300m hurdles, 41.6) and Southern’s Graham Harvey (high jump, 5’ 10”).
Fort Hill won the 4x100m relay (Harley Twigg, Channing Logsdon, Neek Taylor, Braelyn Younger) and 4x400m (Lamb, Taylor, Cleland Scott, Owen Clites), Allegany took the 4x200m (Devin Hall, Gabriel Napier, Khiante Bible, Aidyn McKenzie), and Mountain Ridge finished first in the 4x800m (Will Hughes, Harrison Ruddell, Justin Shirk, Aiden Weimer).
Three girls won two events each: Mountain Ridge’s Aynsley Hawkins (800m, 2:33.9; 3200m, 11:58.5), and Fort Hill’s Jaden Emerson (100m, 12.2; 100m hurdles, 15.7) and Kylee Rice (200m, 27.2; 400m, 1:03.5).
Also winning events were Carolyn Hughes (300m hurdles, 46.7) and Ashlynn Hawkins (triple jump, 33’ 9.5”) of Mountain Ridge; Surae Stewart (shot put, 31’ 11”), Rylee Bauer (discus, 107’ 10.5”) and Briley Linaburg (pole vault, 11’) of Allegany; McNeely Bosley (1600m, 5:59.1) and Ariana Healey (long jump, 15’ 10.25”) of Southern; and Samara Streets (high jump, 4’ 10”) of Northern.
In the relays, Mountain Ridge took first in the 4x200m (Allie Knieriem, Caroline Orndorff, Kealana Pua’auli, Hughes) and 4x400m (Alyah Hutchens, Sophia Brill, Abby Malone, Mauriana Sweitzer), Fort Hill in the 4x100m (Harmani Palmisano, Arriana Sanchez, Caniyah Plummer, Emerson) and Allegany in the 4x800m (Ellena Nelson, Leigha Read, Corinna Hilderbrand, Zoe Ditto).

The Allegany boys scored 127 points, edging Fort Hill at 125, while the Mountain Ridge girls scored 108 points, just ahead of Fort Hill's 105.
Jack Taylor from Allegany, EJ Scott and Casey Martz from Fort Hill, and Zach Haberlein and Austin Simpson from Mountain Ridge each won two events.
