With the free agent signing of Travis Etienne speculation grew that it could signal the end of Alvin Kamara's time as a New Orleans Saint. The Saints do have less than a month to decide what to do with Kamara and General Manager Mickey Loomis gave an answer about the running back that sounded like the team is undecided about his future.
Well, if you want to know what Kamara thinks, it is crystal clear he wants to be in New Orleans and form a 1-2 punch in the backfield. Kamara spoke about Etienne on Terron Armstead's podcast.
"I've watched him in Jacksonville, you know, these past couple of years, and, you know, explosive, you know, he hit home runs. He did it in college. Strong dude. Seemed smart. I'm excited to see what we could do together.
UI ain't into social media and all that. I don't do too much watching and stuff, but I think a lot of people be thinking it's like beef or something. Like when, you know, when moves like this happen, and it's like, man, shoot, I couldn't be happier.
Like one, my boy got paid. And two, like, man, there ain't nothing but some help in the backfield. Like, oh man, that's, that's the name of the game. Shoot. You could dip. One person can't do it by themselves, so I'm cool. I'm cool with it, man. Whichever direction that we can take it.
I mean, I'm, I'm with it, you know what I'm saying? So I haven't had really a chance too much to talk to him. But you know, definitely excited that he got a Florida Leon to tell me he got it. He got paid and talk."
Sounds like Kamara is excited to try and form one of the most formidable running back duos in the NFL with Etienne. Kamara isn't someone who speaks publicly often, but it was refreshing to hear how excited he is to team up with Etienne.
The biggest issue will come down to the money and whether New Orleans believes the money is well-spent on the 31 year old running back. Either way, if the duo stays together, Tyler Shough will have all the help he needs out of the backfield as both players are versatile and can be a plus in the passing game.
The ball is in Loomis' court right now. Kamara is ready to roll.
Alvin Kamara praised Travis Etienne's explosiveness and expressed excitement about the potential of forming a strong backfield duo together.
Yes, the Saints have not made a definitive decision regarding Alvin Kamara's future, as indicated by General Manager Mickey Loomis.
Travis Etienne's signing could either complement Kamara in the backfield or signal a shift in the team's strategy regarding Kamara's role.
