Amanda Anisimova is the latest player to pull out of this year’s Madrid Open.
Anisimova hasn’t played a match since last month’s Miami Open and had already skipped the Charleston event before making this decision.
During her time away from the tour, she also made some changes behind the scenes, parting ways with coach Hendrick Vleeshouwers.
Anisimova was expected to return in Madrid after being seen at the Laureus World Sports Awards in Spain, but that comeback has now been delayed once again.

Last year’s Wimbledon and US Open runner-up was tipped for even bigger things in 2026, but the early part of this season hasn’t quite gone to plan.
Despite a quarterfinal run at the Australian Open, she hasn’t been able to build on her momentum from last season.
Anisimova, who made the semifinals of Roland Garros earlier in her career, hasn’t played a match on clay yet this year. Her next opportunity will come in Rome.

Emma Raducanu is among them, still recovering from a viral illness. She hasn’t played since her loss to Anisimova at Indian Wells.
Karolina Muchova also pulled out after making the Stuttgart final, while Barbora Krejcikova, Marketa Vondrousova and Ekaterina Alexandrova have also withdrawn from this WTA 1000 event.
The men’s side has seen several notable absences as well, including Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic and Jack Draper among ten withdrawals in total.
The women’s singles main draw kicks off on Tuesday, April 21st, with the men following a day later on Wednesday.
