Aminah Vega, a senior infielder from Duke, is a finalist for the USA Softball Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. She leads her team with a batting average of .469 and has been a key player for the 11th-ranked Blue Devils.
While Duke athletes continue to rack up accolades across sports like football and basketball, a Blue Devil softball player has etched her name into the history books for a second time.
Senior infielder Aminah Vega did just that Wednesday when she was named a top 25 finalist for USA Softball's Collegiate Player of the Year Award. This marks the second-straight season in which Vega has earned this distinct recognition.
According to the organization, this prestigious award recognizes exceptional athletic performance throughout the collegiate softball season and is widely regarded as the highest individual honor in NCAA Division I softball.
Vega has been the offensive sparkplug all season for a Duke team that ranks 11th in the country. She leads the team in five hitting statistics, including batting average, which clocks in at an impressive .469.
She has also rewritten the Duke record books during her time in Durham. The Florida native set the Duke career doubles record with 66 and currently sits second all-time in hits with 291 and in home runs with 52 during her four years with the program.
Vega, a two-time ACC Player of the Week recipient, joins North Carolina's Emily LeGette and Florida State's Isa Torres as the only ACC representatives on the list.
According to the organization, the award is voted on by previous award winners, coaching representatives, and local media who consistently cover Division I softball across the country.
The list will shrink down to 10 finalists on May 13 and will be trimmed down to the top three candidates on May 18. The 2026 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will then be named before the start of the Women's College World Series, which is scheduled for May 28-June 5 in Oklahoma City.
Meanwhile, Vega and her Blue Devils will return to action for the 2026 ACC Softball Championship, which will start May 6 and end on May 9. The tournament will be held on the campus of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA.
