Carlos Alcaraz is in a cast after injuring his wrist at the Barcelona Open, leading to withdrawals from upcoming tournaments. Andy Roddick has shared his insights on Alcaraz's injury and fitness concerns ahead of major events.

Carlos Alcaraz has been seen with a cast on his wrist following an injury picked up during the Barcelona Open.
The Spaniard has already pulled out of both the Barcelona and Madrid Opens, and now looks unlikely to make it back in time for the Italian Open or French Open, where heās currently down to defend his titles.
With questions mounting over his fitness ahead of Roland Garros, former world number one Andy Roddick has weighed in with his thoughts on Alcarazās condition.

During the latest episode of āServed with Andy Roddickā, the American offered his thoughts on the situation.
āThatās not what you want to see [picture of him in a cast],ā Roddick admitted.
āI mean, the sunshine analysis on that one is that you just want to completely immobilise something for little irritation.
āYou hope that is what it is.
āYouāve got to think if heās hiding something, heās not taking pictures with it.
āI remember when Fed [Roger Federer] was hurt at the Laver Cup, his knee was all bad, and people didnāt realise how many surgeries he had.ā
Roddick went on to compare how Alcaraz has been public about his injury unlike Federer who would hide things from the media until he felt ready for his return. He said:
āHe was on crutches but he would put the crutches out of the photo every time he was taking them. I want to think itās not like a crazy, serious thing if heās taking that cast out for picture time.ā
Carlos Alcaraz injured his wrist, which has resulted in him wearing a cast.
He has withdrawn from both the Barcelona and Madrid Opens.
It is currently unlikely that he will return in time for the Italian Open or French Open.

The former World No 1 also discussed how pulling out from two major tournaments could affect Alcaraz and made some comments towards Feliciano Lopez. Roddick added:
Roddick explained why a wrist injury may not be as damaging as it seems for Alcaraz: āHeās missed this tournament before and/or pulled out of it before, and/or said my forearm hurts before, and heās come out and won majors,ā
According to āEl Partidazo de Copeā, Alcaraz is dealing with an inflammation of the tendon sheath in his wrist. Recovery times can vary, ranging from a few weeks to several months.
Alcaraz will be aiming for a swift return so he can get back in time to defend his French Open title. The 2026 tournament gets underway on Sunday, 24 May.
