The Los Angeles lost a humiliating 14-1 blowout to the Toronto Blue Jays, as a Jack Kochanowicz error opened the door for the Blue Jays to score seven runs in the fifth inning.
The first three innings were scoreless, but the Blue Jays started to break through against Kochanowicz in the fourth as they scratched out their first run. The Angels starter hit Jesus Sanchez with a pitch, and consecutive singles by Daulton Varsho and Ernie Clement loaded the bases. Andres Gimenez drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, but Kochanowicz was able to get out of the jam and prevent further damage.
The wheels came off completely for Kochanowicz in the fourth, however. He walked Addison Barger to start the inning, and Vladimir Guerrero singled. A wild pitch moved them up, and Kazumo Okamoto singled in the first run of the inning, with Sanchez following suit to get the second run home.
A throwing error on an ordinary comebacker signaled the beginning of the end Kochanowicz’s day and brought in yet another run, and Ernie Clement continued the rally with a single to make it 5-0. Mitch Farris came in and quickly poured gas on the fire by allowing a three-run homer to Brandon Valenzuela that upped the count to 8-0. Farris finally got a couple of outs to end the inning, but the game was essentially over at that point.
