Mike Trout is finally off to a great start after years of injury mishaps and absence at the plate. The three-time MVP was once a phenom at the plate, but at the start of this decade, his performance started to decline. He is writing a completely different story in 2026, though.
In Thursday's series finale against the New York Yankees, the Angels' superstar hit his fifth home run of the series, tying the New York Yankees' Mickey Mantle's 1962 feat of hitting five home runs against the Kansas City Athletics in a series.
Trout's solo bomb, also his seventh home run and 16th RBI of the season, came in the seventh inning of the game as the Angels extended their lead to 7-4. The 90 mph changeup from Yankees' Angel Chivilli was deposited way back into the left field stands with Statcast projecting a 446 ft. distance and 114.6 mph exit velocity. That was some hit.
Trout's latest solo bomb extended his home run streak to four games, as he previously hit two home runs in the series opener and followed it up with a home run each in the next two games. He also extends his lead on Yankees' Aaron Judge, who tied the Angels star with four home runs in the series earlier in the game.

The latest home run by Mike Trout helped him tie George Brett for the 31st rank on the MLB all-time bWAR leaderboard. While Brett reached the 88.7 bWAR mark in 21 seasons and 11,625 plate appearances, the Angels star is here in 16 seasons and 7,287 career plate appearances only.
The next on the list is Wade Boggs with 91.4 bWAR in his 21-year career. Trout can easily leapfrog him, too, given the way he has started the season.
Assuming Trout hits the 10.0 bWAR mark by the end of this season, which is not all that tough if the Angels star keeps hitting like this, he would surpass Carl Yastrzemski for the 22nd all-time in bWAR rankings.
