Hearts boss McInnes calls Celtic's last-minute penalty 'disgusting'
Reid Detmers of the Angels remains optimistic despite a sweep by the Guardians, emphasizing the need to trust the process as the team struggles with a 1-5 record on their recent road trip.
Los Angeles Angels starter Reid Detmers pitched a solid game in Wednesday’s loss to the Cleveland Guardians, and is confident in the Angels’ ability to turn their season around.
The Angels suffered a sweep at the hands of Cleveland, capping off a six-game road trip during which they posted a 1-5 record. Detmers had a solid effort in the series finale, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing four runs—three earned—with six strikeouts.
“Obviously we’re grinding,” Detmers said. “We’re doing everything possible to go out there and win. It’s not like we’re going out there to lose. Some of it’s unfortunate luck, and then obviously there’s some stuff we need to tighten up. But inside this clubhouse, we’re together. We’re good. We’ve got our heads down every day trying to get better.
“It’s one of those things where it sounds cheesy, but trust the process. It’s only the middle of May right now. There’s still four and a half, five months to go, whatever it is. And we’re only six games back, or six and a half, whatever it is. There’s still plenty of time. Just kind of trust the process. Keep grinding. It’s got to equal out eventually.”

The Angels are currently a season-worst 12 games under .500, and had the worst record in MLB following their day game. Things haven’t quite clicked for the Angels yet, though the blame doesn’t lie completely with one party.
The offense has had its moments, especially through explosive talents like Mike Trout, Zach Neto and Jorge Soler, though has also had its dry spells. The Halos had just four hits in their loss Wednesday.
As for the pitching, things have also been a little rocky. The Angels have a 4.63 ERA as a team despite Jose Soriano’s fantastic efforts through the early days of the 2026 season, and their bullpen has the third-worst ERA in MLB.
They’re 6.5 games back in the AL West, and will need to turn things around soon if they’re to find themselves in contention when it comes down to it. The Angels will return home following their series against the Guardians, and their next opponents won’t have to travel far to get to the game. The Dodgers are in town for the Freeway Series over the weekend, and the Angels will look to string a solid run of games together against the team who they didn’t lose a game to last season.
