Carra: Chelsea look like a broken club
Chelsea's sixth straight league loss raises concerns, says Carragher.
Mike Trout is having a standout start to the season, leading the AL with 30 runs and hitting 10 home runs. Experts suggest the Angels should trade him now while his value is high due to concerns over his contract.
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout is off to hot start this season. He is leading the American League with 30 runs, ranks second with a .433 on-base percentage and has hit the fifth-most home runs in the league this season with 10 in 24 games.
His early-season surge is the reason The Athletic’s Keith Law is urging the Angels to quickly trade the three-time AL Most Valuable Player.
“The Angels need to look into trading [Trout] right now, as his value will never be higher, and his contract is still a major risk for them,” Law wrote on Monday.

The biggest requirement for the Angels to justify trading Trout is getting top prospects or young MLB players in return. Law named the Philadelphia Phillies, Texas Rangers, San Francisco Giants and New York Yankees are the top fits for Trout.

“The most obvious trade partner is the Phillies, who need help in the outfield corners and would get an immediate bump from bringing a local star back home,” Law wrote. “… I could see the Phillies parting with one of Justin Crawford or Dante Nori, both outfielders, along with some prospects from their low minors, perhaps even right-hander Gage Wood, who is throwing well in Low A as a college product.”
The Rangers could offer 23-year-old center fielder Evan Carter and a top pitching prospect. Law suggested 27-year-old first baseman Casey Schmitt as a potential piece of a trade deal with the Giants. And for the Yankees, Law said the Angels could receive veteran Giancarlo Stanton along with some “second-tier prospects” in exchange for Trout.
Trout has a no-trade clause in his contract, so he will need to approve of any team the Angels try to trade him to.
