The Minnesota Timberwolves entered Saturday with hopes of securing a 3-1 lead over the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
While the contest is still up for grabs, the franchise isnāt in good shape to come out victorious in front of their home crowd, as their star guard, Anthony Edwards, suffered a brutal lower body injury before intermission.
āAnthony Edwards appeared to take a knee-to-knee shot on that Cam Johnson drive to his left knee,ā ESPNās Anthony Slater reported on X/Twitter. āNeeded help to get to the locker room.ā
āReplay shows a hyperextension of Edwards' left knee. Brutal first half for the Timberwolves.ā
Essentially, Edwards elevated to contest a Cameron Johnson layup late in the first half and landed awkwardly in the process. As Slater noted, itās apparent that the 24-year-old superstar hyperextended his left knee, which isnāt great news for a Timberwolves squad thatās already without sharpshooting wing Donte DiVincenzo (heās also dealing with a lower body setback).
While itās unclear if Edwardsā latest injury will end his season, thereās already heavy speculation that he could miss significant time on the hardwood. Finding a way to squeeze out a win without Edwards and moving a step closer to advancing to the next round would go a long way toward eventually getting him back in the lineup.
For now, though, it isnāt far-fetched to suggest that things donāt appear promising for Minnesota.
