Pyrrhic victory, meet the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Wolves lost Donte DiVincenzo and Anthony Edwards to injury in Saturday night's 112-96 win over the Denver Nuggets. They've taken a 3-1 series lead, in large part because Ayo Dosunmu dropped 43 points off the bench.
But there are plenty of questions now to be answered.
It was revealed quickly that DiVincenczo had torn his Achilles and will not be coming back anytime soon.
The news for Edwards isn't that bad, but it's not great, either.
Edwards is "expected to miss multiple weeks," according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
Charania reports that it's both a bone bruise and a hyperextension in Edwards' left knee.
Testing revealed the good news that Edwards had avoided ligament damage, but he'll have to work his way back.
Minnesota's 3-1 advantage gives it a bit of wiggle room here. The Timberwolves need only to play one more good game to get past Denver, and depending on the length of other series in the West, could get a bit of time to rest.
But the reality is they're going to have to win some playoff games without Edwards to give him a chance to make it back on the court this season.
It's not an ideal situation for anyone involved with the Timberwolves, that's for sure.
The exact duration of Anthony Edwards' absence has not been specified yet.
Donte DiVincenzo has torn his Achilles and will not return to play soon.
The Timberwolves currently hold a 3-1 series lead despite the injuries to both Edwards and DiVincenzo.
