Anthony Gordon: Man United target makes decision on Newcastle future
Manchester Unitedâs hunt for a new left-winger has reportedly taken a sharp twist after an explosive decision by Newcastle United talisman Anthony Gordon.
The Red Devils are prioritising an overhaul of their midfield unit this summer, with Casemiro certain to leave and Manuel Ugarte looking increasingly likely to join the Brazilian. But investment will not be limited solely to fixing the stalling engine room, as INEOS are in the market for reinforcements on the left flank.
Sky Sports reports that the recruitment department are âalso looking at left-wing and left-back as positions of interestâ in addition to midfield, while a new goalkeeper and centre-back may be added as well.
Initially, RB Leipzigâs breakout star Yan Diomande was believed to be the primary target for the wing, having enjoyed a stellar debut campaign in Germany after his ÂŁ20 million switch from Leganes last summer. However, the Bundesliga club have placed a prohibitive ÂŁ87 million price tag on their 19-year-old speedster and are keen for him to remain for another season.
Iliman Ndiaye, who propelled Senegal to victory at the Africa Cup of Nations before the tournament descended into controversy, has been one of Evertonâs best performers on the blue half of Merseyside. United are on the 26-year-old trickster, who recently said Old Trafford was his favourite stadium.
Anthony Gordon has made a significant decision regarding his future at Newcastle United, although the specifics of that decision are not detailed.

A blockbuster raid for Aston Villa wizard Morgan Rogers has also been floated, with the 23-year-old Halesowen native believed to be ready to leave the Birmingham side this summer. The Villans are reluctant to let their prized attacker leave but would consider big-money offers if the player signals his intent to accept them.
However, Gordon is another Premier League-proven winger on Unitedâs radar, with the 25-year-oldâs versatility across the frontline of particular interest at Old Trafford. But unlike the other three targets, the Newcastle United star is now actively pushing to leave ahead of a blockbuster summer transfer to one of Europeâs biggest clubs, according to The Telegraph.
âAnthony Gordon is keen to explore his options to leave Newcastle United in the summer as he looks to follow Alexander Isak out of the club,â the report states.
âNewcastle have not been told by Gordon that he wants to leave, but the feeling inside St Jamesâ Park is that the winger will seek a move in the summer and the club are aware of potential interest from England and Europe. As a result, the Newcastle hierarchy is braced for bids to come early in the summer as the player is keen to get his future sorted before the World Cup.â
The England international is set to play an important role for the Three Lions in North America as he jostles with United loanee Marcus Rashford for Thomas Tuchelâs nod on the left wing.
United are joined by Premier League rivals Arsenal and Liverpool in the hunt, while Bayern Munich are understood to have identified Gordon as a key target.
Reports in Germany suggested Newcastle United would entertain bids in the region of ÂŁ50â55 million, but this has been rubbished on Tyneside. Instead, the Magpies are likely to demand a fee that âexceeds ÂŁ80 millionâ to sanction an exit.
There is quiet acceptance at St Jamesâ Park that Gordonâs form â only three goals from open play in the Premier League since the start of 2025 â has dipped domestically. However, the former Everton star was red-hot in Newcastle Unitedâs European campaign, racking up 10 goals in 12 games, bettered only by Harry Kane and Kylian MbappĂ©.
Gordonâs conflicting form is a difficult one to break down, as Newcastle United largely played better as a team in the Champions League this season compared to a streak of dismal performances in England. Naturally, a forwardâs potency will reflect the quality of the play behind them.
But the Liverpudlian, who is understood to have been desperate to join Arne Slotâs side two years ago, is a winger who operates best in transition, free to utilise his potent pairing of speed and strength to exploit large spaces. In Europe, this platform is more readily available than in the increasingly physical Premier League, where low blocks and set-pieces reign supreme.
Itâs this exact defensive set-up that United have consistently struggled to break down, however. Adding another attacker who is unlikely to improve this weakness would be an unwise move for the Red Devils, particularly if it requires a mammoth fee to bring him to Old Trafford in the process.
